The free first three chapters of an epistolary romance. You are a censor, blacking out the letters of two lovers who have never met — so every word you strike is struck from the love itself. Then the letters begin, impossibly, to answer your pen. Wishlist for all six endings.

About This Demo

Matter prejudicial to morale

The men have gone to the war. Far behind a front nobody names, the sorting hall is staffed by women who read other people's mail for the Bureau. You have a stamp, a pen, and a card of regulations listing what a soldier must not be told.

Two strangers write to each other through your desk. They have never met, and everything between them is on the paper you are holding. When you bar a line, it is gone from the romance itself as well as from the page. Pass a tenderness and it reaches the other side. Strike it, and as far as either of them will ever know, it was never written.

The first three chapters, free

The demo is where the correspondence begins and where you learn the desk: how to read, how to rule, and what the copybook is for.
  • Open each letter, strike what must not pass, and stamp it on its way. Your rulings move two things: the bond between the lovers, and how closely the office is watching you.
  • Before some letters leave your hands, you may copy a single line into a copybook.
  • Every ruling is filed. There is no undo at the desk.

The paper starts answering back. The whole correspondence runs about two to four hours, in one sitting or two, and how it ends is decided by two fates at once: what becomes of the lovers, and what becomes of you. Ink, gaslight, sorting halls, a waltz heard through a café wall, in a world that feels old and European and never gives its name. Single-player, text-based, choice-driven, in eleven languages.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

The game's artwork (chapter illustrations and store art) was pre-generated using generative AI tools and then curated, edited, and composited by the team. The in-game backgrounds, the title screen and the paper the letters are set on were made the same way. The narrative was written with substantial AI assistance under human direction and editorial review. The music was generated with AI tools; ambience and effects are recorded sound. All AI-generated content ships pre-rendered; the game performs no live AI generation.
