Yet the heroes who shaped history are not the only ones who can lead this story.

Choose your protagonist from over 450 officers.

Famed generals, brilliant strategists, warlords from across the land, the officers who fought beneath them, and figures relegated to the shadows of history—the choice is yours.

Continue the story of a favorite officer beyond the history we know. Give someone remembered as a loser another chance to forge a new destiny. You can even create an original officer of your own and send them into the age of war.

Your starting force, territory, allies, and surrounding circumstances change depending on your chosen protagonist and scenario.

Take the stage in Spring 190, “Coalition Against Dong Zhuo,” or Autumn 194, “Warlords Ascendant.” Even with the same protagonist, a new story begins from a different position and balance of power.

Recruit Allies and Freely Assemble Your Ideal Party

As you travel through the war-torn land, you will encounter bandits and officers from across the realm. Defeat free officers and recruit them to fill the ranks of your growing force.

The officers who join you are never locked into a preset lineup.

Who will fight on the front line?
Who will serve as commander, and who as sub-commander?
Will you overwhelm the enemy with a wall of mighty warriors?
Or build your strategy around brilliant tacticians?

Freely select up to five commanders to deploy, then combine them with supporting sub-commanders, skills, traits, and formations to create a party all your own.

Your protagonist is not the only one who grows. Every recruited officer can develop through battle and training. Build a party of personal favorites, create a dream team that history never saw, or forge an elite force optimized for specific roles and abilities. What kind of army you lead is entirely up to you.

Some officers also share special Bonds. Gather every member connected by a Bond to earn a valuable reward.

Every officer you meet and every ally you recruit will become a source of strength in the turbulent age ahead.

Collect Gear and Unlock Your Officers’ Full Potential

Battles can reward you with a wide variety of weapons and armor.

Gear can possess different quality grades and prefixes, meaning that even two items of the same type can have entirely different attributes.

Push a mighty warrior’s attack power even higher.
Equip a strategist to make the most of their intellect.
Build a swift schemer who strengthens allies and weakens enemies before they can act.

Who carries each piece of gear can transform the way your entire party fights. Combine officer attributes, skills, traits, and equipment to pursue your ideal build.

Command Battles Where Might and Intellect Collide

After both sides select their actions, officers act in order of Speed.

Master the matchups among Spear, Bow, Cavalry, and Tactics.
Use skills such as fire attacks, floods, healing, buffs, and debuffs.
Take advantage of officer-specific traits and formations that affect the entire party.

Combining these elements and adapting your tactics to the enemy lineup is the key to victory.

Battles may also erupt into Duels that test raw might or Strategist Battles that pit intellect against intellect.

Mighty warriors who shatter enemy lines and strategists who overturn the course of battle through cunning each have their own moment to shine. Victory requires more than simply fielding officers with high attributes—you must learn how to bring out the best in every ally.

Rival forces recruit officers, devise schemes, and fight over castles. A free officer may raise their own banner and establish a new force, while a power that prospered only yesterday may be destroyed.

Choose the same scenario and the same protagonist, and history still will not unfold exactly the same way twice.

Conquer 88 Castles and Unite the Realm

Across China stand 88 castles.

Attack an enemy castle to begin a siege, wearing down its Durability until it can be captured.

Launch an Assault, sacrificing troops to deal heavy damage.
Encircle the castle, spending gold to limit your losses.
Choose a Plan, entrusting the outcome to the intellect of your officers.

Assess the battlefield, troop strength, gold, and the abilities of your allies before choosing your best course of action.

After capturing a castle, appoint Governors, Civil Officers, and Military Officers, enact policies, and strengthen your force. Decide who belongs on the battlefield and who should be entrusted with your castles. The officers you recruit are vital not only in combat, but also in governing your expanding domain.

Expand your territory alongside your allies, defeat every warlord who stands in your way, and unite all 88 castles beneath a single banner.
