What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Starcore already has the foundation of the game we want: voxel building, structural physics, waves, mining, research, hives, mechs, and voiced radio systems. It is also very much an alpha. Early Access lets us test balance, pacing, performance, onboarding, and late-game progression with real players building things we would never predict internally.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect Starcore to stay in Early Access for at least 12 months, and possibly longer depending on how much the game grows during public testing. We would rather leave Early Access when the fortress, wave, research, and late-game loops feel strong than commit to an artificial date.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“For the full version, we plan to improve balance, performance across a wider range of PCs, onboarding, UI clarity, controller support, enemy and boss pacing, region progression, late-game goals, and overall polish. We also plan to refine the existing co-op, save/resume, and Steam features through broader player testing. Plans may change as Early Access feedback shows what needs the most work.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current Windows alpha has a playable first- and third-person voxel fortress-defense loop with freeform building, shaped blocks, structural stress and collapses, mounted weapons, orbital support, mining, field research, voiced radio, procedural regions, wave defense, hives, bosses, mechs, saves, and legacy progression. Four-player co-op is available through Steam lobbies, LAN, or self-hosted dedicated servers. Steam co-op has been tested with another player. Steam Cloud sync across PCs and leaderboard submission during a full run still need broader testing. Paid cosmetics and managed official hosting are not live. Balance, onboarding, hardware performance, audio tuning, and late-game pacing remain active work. ”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Starcore is free to play in Early Access, and we intend to keep the base game free after Early Access. Local play, core progression, research, exploration, armor, mechs, fortress building, and leaderboard competition are intended to remain available without buying power. Future optional purchases, if added, are planned around cosmetics and hosting convenience rather than damage, armor, resources, progression, or competitive advantage. No paid cosmetics or official hosting subscription is currently available. ”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We want community feedback on fortress designs, confusing UI, performance, balance spikes, overpowered strategies, boring waves, favorite weapons, co-op friction, save/resume problems, and the parts of the game that produce great stories. Steam discussions, update posts, and controlled friends-and-family testing will be the main places for feedback, bug reports, patch notes, and roadmap priorities.”

About This Game

Build the fortress. Hold the Core. Take the fight outside.

Starcore is a free-to-play voxel fortress-defense roguelite that puts you inside the stronghold you build. Mine, research, and prepare between attacks, then fight alongside your defenses when the swarm arrives. Take on an Expedition alone or with up to three friends, battle for the opposing Core in Corenet, or build a scenario of your own.

Make every wall count

Build towers, bridges, firing platforms, and layered defenses from shaped voxel blocks. Weight, stress, and support matter: a broken foundation can bring a whole section down. Position turrets, generators, shields, and repair systems to cover your weak points, and leave yourself a way to fight back when the perimeter breaks.

Defend it together

Four-player Expedition co-op gives your crew a shared fortress, resources, and research, with personal equipment for each player. Split the work between construction, gathering, exploration, and combat. Play through Steam or LAN, host a dedicated server, or save your expedition and return later.

Fight in first or third person with handheld weapons. Bring a Walker mech or call in orbital and tactical support when the battlefield demands a bigger answer.

Push into the Frontier

Venture into procedural regions to gather resources, unlock research, and confront hives and bosses. Beyond the original swarm campaign, the Auric Concord brings alien installations, resonant defenses, new materials, and powerful commanders. Your fortress and progress carry into the next chapter; your enemies change the way you defend it.

Corenet: defend your Core. Destroy theirs.

Build an economy, research your force, and send attackers against the other team's defenses while protecting your own Core. Choose how to spend your income: more troops, stronger fortifications, or the technology that makes your next push count.

Custom battles support human and computer teams in formats from 1v1 through 4v4, including asymmetric matchups. Mix ground troops, flyers, siege units, and Titans, and choose computer difficulty and personality to suit the battle.

Create the next battlefield

The in-game 3D scenario editor lets you shape terrain, place voxel structures, define routes and objectives, customize units, and connect events with dropdown-driven triggers. Test your scenario as you build it. Share through Steam Workshop, browse community creations, or export a scenario directly.

Free to play. Growing in Early Access.

The base game and its core progression are free. Starcore is in active alpha, with ongoing work on balance, performance, onboarding, audio, and late-game content. Expect frequent updates as the game develops.

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Some artwork and promotional images, dialogue, synthesized character voices, and sound effects were created with generative AI tools during development. These are pre-generated, fixed assets. No content is generated by AI during gameplay, and the game does not connect to third-party AI services while you play.
