About This Game

Buy'n'Large Pharmaceuticals promised its evacuation shuttle would take you somewhere safe. It did not specify that the somewhere would be a ditch, or that the apocalypse it was fleeing was a product the company shipped on purpose. You wake up beside the wreck with two fists, one bad attitude, and a one-mile walk to the last camp of the living.

Grave Danger is a single-player comedy RPG inspired by the turn-limited adventuring mechanics of Kingdom of Loathing (2003), rebuilt as a zombie apocalypse where the real monster is a wellness brand. It is turn-based, text-forward, absurd on purpose, and stuffed with more jokes than are strictly advisable.

Your day has a turn limit

You get so many things done per day, and then the sun goes down and the shambling gets worse. Every fight, search, and questionable roadside decision costs a turn. Eat food and drink questionable beverages to squeeze out more, but mind your Fullness and your Buzz: overdo the booze and you black out and lose the rest of the day. Sleep to reset, then resume making poor choices tomorrow.

Six survivors, six flavors of poor judgment

Play a Wasteland Bruiser who solves problems with follow-through, a Junkyard Knight with a code of honor and severe tetanus risk, a Mad Chemist who read the warning label as a recipe, a Radio Priest broadcasting salvation at 101.5 FM, a Scavenger for whom everything is inventory, or a Smooth Talker who once got a horde to form an orderly queue. Each class brings its own weapons, skills, and voice.

Fight 380+ things that should not exist

Every monster is written specifically for the game, categorized, and funny, from the confused zombie tourist to a stock ticker serpent that blames you for the crash. Combat actually reads differently depending on how you fight: a caustic squirt gun does not narrate like a chainsaw, and neither of them narrates like your bare fists. Five elements (Fire, Toxic, Electric, Psychic, and Gross) inflict conditions worth planning around.

Dress for the apocalypse you want

Craft weapons and armor out of duct tape, scrap, and spite. Complete synergy armor sets for bonus protection, chase down class signature weapons, and watch it all appear on your survivor's paper doll. If it is not nailed down it is a crafting material, and if it is nailed down, the nails are also a crafting material.

A full campaign with a very fireable final boss

Thirteen comedic quests take you from the roadside ditch through the suburbs, downtown, the wasteland, and finally to an island boardroom to have a frank conversation with Patient Zero, the CEO of Buy'n'Large, about his product roadmap. Beat him and unlock New Game Plus, with permanent legacy perks that carry into the next cycle.

Made with obsessive, low-budget care

Each location has its own background track, while the interface keeps sound effects to one unobtrusive button click. Zone scenes and character art are built for the game, while item and monster icons use properly attributed CC BY artwork from . There is a full settings menu with text scaling, reduced motion, high contrast, and separate music and button-click volume controls, plus a field guide that actually explains the rules instead of hiding them in tooltips.
