About This Game

When fate deals you a bad hand, you must play it right.

You wake in a cell deep beneath the world, with no memory of who you are or why you were thrown away. Beyond the bars: caves, ruins, and the peoples of the deep — and somewhere far above, the light. Submundus is a survival roguelike deckbuilder where your deck is not just your weapon. It is your body, your pack, and the passage of time itself.

YOUR DECK IS YOUR LIFE
Every wound you take, every meal you skip, every hour without rest enters your deck as a card. Survival damage doesn't just hurt — it clogs your hands, dilutes your strategy, and slows you down. Manage it, purge it, or be buried by it.

YOUR DECK IS YOUR CLOCK
Time in Submundus passes in deck cycles. A lean deck moves fast; a bloated one drags. Hunger, thirst and fatigue accumulate as time flows — every card you add is a choice about who you are and how fast you live.

EVERYTHING IS A CARD
Weapons grant cards. Spells inject cards. Enemy poison and disease infest your deck as cards. Even your memories return as cards — fragments of a past that someone wanted buried. Even light matters: your torch burns down in cycles, and the dark below is not kind.

NO TWO DESCENTS ARE THE SAME
Every run carves a new underground. Rooms, encounters, factions and fortunes are procedurally generated — then persist for the length of your run. Backtrack, map the depths, and choose your route through a world that remembers your passage, even if no one remembers you.

MAKE ALLIES. MAKE ENEMIES. OR TRUST NO ONE.
The deep has its own peoples, its own wars, and its own grudges. Take sides, or walk alone — discover who you are, why you were forgotten underground, and fight your way back to the surface. If the surface is still waiting for you.

FOUR WAYS TO SURVIVE
Begin as a Brute, a Contrabandist, an Elven Apprentice or a Dwarf Acolyte — starting points, not cages. Each remembers different fragments of the same buried truth. Build your character freely: any path is open to anyone strong enough to walk it.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Submundus is developed by one person. Generative AI tools are used as part of the asset production pipeline: 3D models are generated from concept art and then rigged, animated, corrected and integrated by hand; music and sound effects are generated and then edited, cut and mixed for the game; key art and store images were generated and then composed and adjusted manually. All game design, systems, writing, balancing and code architecture are authored by the developer.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Submundus contains stylized fantasy violence involving humanlike characters and creatures. Combat may include depictions of injury, blood, disease, starvation and death as part of its dark fantasy and survival themes. The game does not contain sexual content, sexual violence, BDSM, drug or alcohol abuse, or self-harm.
