What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Wayfarer Protocol is already fully playable, but I've got a lot more planned: more research and tech, new ships, structures, and events. Early Access lets me add these over time and shape the game around real player feedback, instead of guessing on my own.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Roughly 6 to 12 months. That really depends on how much the game grows and how much player feedback shapes it, so I'd rather give an honest estimate than promise a fixed date.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version is already a full run, from your first ship to the Deep Rim. For the full version I want to broaden and deepen the game based on how people actually play. Things I'm hoping to add over time:

- More research and tech to unlock
- More ships, structures, and weapons
- More random events and crew stories
- Deeper systems for combat and ship management
- Balance and quality-of-life improvements driven by player feedback

These are goals rather than promises, and which ones arrive first will depend a lot on what the community wants most.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“It's a complete, stable game you can play start to finish right now. You build a ship, keep your crew alive, jump between sectors, fight pirates and boarders, and push toward the Deep Rim and its final boss.

Already in the game:
- Four starter ships and four difficulty levels
- Full crew survival: food, water, oxygen, rest, morale, and health
- Ship building with power, life support, heat, and fire to manage
- Real-time combat with turrets, shields, boarding, and a range of weapons
- A sector map with route choices and text events that shape your run
- Saving and loading, a codex, achievements, and music

The core loop is finished and runs smoothly, so Early Access is about adding more content and depth, not fixing a broken base.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. As I add more content, the price will likely go up over time. Buying during Early Access gets you the lowest price, plus all future updates included.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Player feedback will directly shape what I build next. I'll follow the Steam discussions, take suggestions and bug reports seriously, and use them to decide which ships, systems, and events come first. With every update I'll share what changed and why, and keep listening from there.”

About This Game

Wayfarer Protocol is a colony sim on a single starship. You get a cramped hull, a reactor that barely keeps up, and a crew who will suffocate if you look away too long. Everything past that, you build.
Build the ship
Floor and hull go down one tile at a time. Reactors, oxygen recyclers, hydroponics, bunks. Turrets and thrusters bolt onto the outside. Every system pulls power and throws off heat, and a reactor that falls behind will brown out exactly the half of the ship you needed running.
Keep the crew alive
Your crew get hungry, tired and scared, and each of them carries traits that cut both ways. The hard worker is fifteen percent quicker at everything. The coward fights at less than half strength and would rather hide. The voidborn sleeps less and eats more. Morale sinks when the ship falls apart around them.

When something goes wrong, somebody drops what they are doing and deals with it. Fires. Hull breaches. If the breach is on the outside, they put on a suit and go out on a tether to patch it.
Then you jump
Every sector deals a new hand. An asteroid field worth stripping, a trader worth hailing, a distress call that might be a trap. Pirates who will cut through the hull to get at the cargo, and who send people across to take the ship room by room. Boarders die in vacuum, so an airlock is a weapon, as long as your own crew are somewhere else.
Fight their ship, not a health bar
Drop the shields, then pick apart the engines, the guns, the life support. Missiles go around shields entirely. A railgun charges for a few seconds and then guts one component in a single strike.
Deeper
A dreadnought guards sector 10, and it does not take bribes. Killing it is the first thing that counts as winning. It is also not the end. Another one waits at 20, and at 30, each drawn from heavier stock than the last.

Lose the whole crew and it ends there instead.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

During development we used generative AI in a few places. A large language model helped write some of the game's text (in-game descriptions, events, and store copy). The music and many of the sound effects were created with Adobe Firefly, while some other sounds are generated in real time by the game's own code. The app icon was also created with Adobe Firefly. The in-game graphics are drawn procedurally by the game's code and are not AI-generated. Nothing is generated by AI while you play: every AI-assisted asset is created during development and shipped as a fixed file. The generative AI tools used (Adobe Firefly) grant commercial usage rights.
