Why Early Access?

“TaskbarCats is already a working desktop companion, but Windows taskbar positions, monitor layouts, display scaling, and accessibility modes vary far more than a lab setup can responsibly imitate. Early Access lets us collect compatibility feedback while improving stability and interaction.”

Approximately how long will this software be in Early Access?

“We expect Early Access to last roughly 6–12 months. We will leave Early Access when the core Windows environments we support are stable and the planned interaction and usability work has been validated with players.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to improve compatibility across monitor and taskbar arrangements, refine cat behavior and interaction, and continue usability and performance improvements. The exact scope will be guided by player feedback and technical validation.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current build includes five pixel cat variants; walking, running, jumping, idle, and sleeping behavior; fixed, random, and periodic spawning; lifetime rules; size and speed controls; tray-based settings; seven interface languages; Windows light, dark, and high-contrast theme support; and Primary or All monitor placement. Left and right taskbars use a horizontal fallback along the bottom of the monitor work area.”

Will this software be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. The price will increase when Taskbar Cats leaves Early Access. The new price and regional equivalents will be announced at least 30 days before the increase.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will use Steam Discussions and reviews to collect feedback. For compatibility reports, please include your Windows version, monitor count, taskbar location, display scaling, and whether taskbar auto-hide is enabled.”

About This Software

Taskbar Cats brings five kinds of pixel cats to your Windows desktop. Each kind is one unique companion across your monitors, with a saved name and personality. Watch their individual routines of walking, running, jumping, resting and sleeping.

🪟 Your windows become a playground

Watch cats explore reachable window tops and edges and climb window walls. Moving windows and foreground occlusion are reflected in their desktop world.

💛 Familiar faces, growing preferences

Open a profile card to rename a cat and discover its personality, preferred places, movement style and daily rhythm. Windows where it actually spends time can become favorites. Forget a window, block visits to a specific window or an entire app, or allow visits again—separately for each cat.

🖥️ Made for your desktop

View the actual Windows display layout and cat count per screen. Optional fullscreen visibility lets cats use the bottom of that display. Compatibility can vary by window type and display mode. The cat overlay does not intercept mouse clicks; open profiles or quit from the tray. Supports Windows startup and Korean, English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, German and French.

Generative AI tools were used during development to assist with programming and drafts of some user-interface text and localization. All shipped content was reviewed and edited by the developer. The animated cat artwork is licensed human-created pixel art. Taskbar Cats does not generate AI content during use and does not connect to external AI services.
