Forge your desktop into a command console

DeskForge is a desktop management tool for Windows. Your wallpaper is no longer buried under scattered icons — icons and folders go into customisable drawers, and widgets such as the clock, memos and the system monitor can sit on the wallpaper if you want them. They stay at the very bottom of the window stack, never appear in the taskbar, and never interrupt the window you are typing in.

Drawers: they hold everything, and they roll away

• Drop it in and it is filed — drag icons and folders straight into a drawer. Hover and it opens; move away and it rolls back into a single title bar, so the wallpaper shows again.
  
• Clear the whole desktop in one click — folders, documents, images, media, archives and shortcuts each go to the drawer you chose. Tick "collect automatically" and anything new of that kind files itself from then on.
  
• Hands off these — right-click to mark the icons you never want moved, and every batch collection from then on skips them.
  
• Drag in a real folder and the drawer becomes that folder — delete or drag out inside the drawer and you are touching the real files. Icon view or list view, your choice.
  
• The guard rails are built in — a whole drive root, the desktop itself, your user folder, system folders and the top level of cloud-sync folders are all refused, so you cannot lock yourself into a corner.
  
• Every drawer has its own look — background colour and transparency, background image, border, corner radius, content scale, icon intensity and font, plus the colour, size and position of the title bar.
  
• The title bar can sit on any of the four sides, and snaps to the screen edge when it gets close. You can lock a drawer in place so nothing moves by accident.
  
• Your files are always findable — everything filed into a drawer really lives in a folder of your own and the path is right there. Move or rename that folder and the program reconciles itself back to it.

Honeycomb: growing ring by ring

• A honeycomb drawer puts the handle in the middle and arranges icons outwards in hexagonal rings. Whichever one you point at grows.
  
• Fence off your own patch — pull the boundary out by its anchors and the icons arrange themselves inside it. What you see while dragging is what you get.
  
• Turn the grid off and place them freely — an icon stays exactly where you drop it, and two of them may overlap completely.
  
• Invisible until the mouse sweeps past — with a live wallpaper you can fade the whole field of icons until it is barely there.
  
• Delayed launch — every icon can have its own delay of 1 to 5 seconds: a white line first travels round the inside of its cell, and only then does the item open. If your wallpaper has an opening animation, you can tune the seconds to match it.
  
• The centre image comes with ten built-in options, or upload your own and crop one. Switch a drawer between the ordinary and the honeycomb layout at any time — both arrangements are remembered.

Widgets: on the wallpaper, where you can see them

• Clock — digital or analogue face, 12 or 24 hour, with your own font, colours and background density.
  
• Memo — one line per task, each with its own reminder (in a few minutes, in a few hours, or at a time you set) and a choice of 20 tones; four paper textures, adjustable width and text size, and it can collapse to just its title.
  
• System Monitor — build your own panel: pick from 13 readings, colour each one separately, lay them out in a row or a column. It can be pinned on top, so you can still see it in a borderless full-screen game.

(★ Which readings you can actually pick depends on your motherboard and monitoring software: anything that cannot be read simply does not appear in the menu.)

Your whole machine, remembered

• Saved desktop layouts — save as many custom layouts as you like and swap between them at any time. A restore point is saved automatically every 5 minutes, so a mistake can be undone.
  
• Export and share — before saving you are asked what this one is for: keep it in the product, a full backup, or something to hand to someone else (the shared version strips out every local path and anything private). On import you pair the items up one by one and decide what maps to what.
  
• Wallpaper slideshow — the built-in art library or your own picture folder, with the interval and layout you choose. It uses the Windows mechanism, and if you already run another wallpaper app you will get a heads-up.

At home in Windows

• Right-click any file in File Explorer and send it straight to the drawer you want.
  
• Three global hotkeys: bring every drawer to the front for a look, hide them all, or open them all at once.
  
• Start with Windows if you want; it lives in the tray, and the tray menu shows exactly how much CPU and memory it is using right now.
  
• Correct at every display scale from 100% to 400%.

Quiet, and yours

• Always at the bottom — every window you open covers it. It never gets in the way and never takes focus.
  
• Very light on resources — it runs all day and you hardly notice it. And it measures itself: the tray menu shows the CPU and memory it is using at this moment, so you do not have to take our word for it.
  
• Works with Steam closed — the base features run as usual; the moment Steam connects, your add-ons unlock without restarting.
  
• Entirely local — layouts live in a file on your machine. No account, no cloud, and the core features need no internet at all.
  
• Fourteen interface languages: 繁體中文, 简体中文, English, 日本語, 한국어, Français, Deutsch, Español, Русский, Português (Brasil), Português (Portugal), Türkçe, Tiếng Việt, ไทย.

Everything below is sold separately and is not included in the base product. The base product is a one-off purchase with every feature unlocked; add whichever pack you want.

• Tomato Clock and Advanced — a Pomodoro Timer (tomato, hourglass or mechanical dial skin) plus five clock tools in one: Timer, Countdown, Stopwatch (with laps and hundredths), Alarm (repeating daily or on weekdays) and a World Clock covering 20 cities.
  
• Mechanical dials (five dial packs) — Dress, Pilot, Diver and Sport with 5 dials each, and Vintage pocket watches with 8: 28 named dials in all. Smooth sweeping second hand, can run on another city's time zone, and can rotate through dials on its own.
  
• Watch Strap Pack — leather, metal bracelet, rubber and nylon NATO: four materials, 16 straps in total, shown flat under the dial or wrapped around it in 3D, with adjustable exposed length.
