About This Game

About This Game

Hazardous Employment is a darkly comedic fantasy guild-management roguelite where you recruit, equip, and arrange adventurers—but never control them in battle.

Once they leave the guildhall, the expedition runs itself. Your decisions determine who goes, where they stand, what they carry, and whether the company can afford the consequences.

The heroes fight monsters.

You fight payroll.

Assemble a Qualified* Team

Recruit adventurers with different classes, attributes, potential, and wage expectations. Decide who belongs on the active party, evaluate how well they fit the assignment, and drag them into formation.

Front-line employees take damage first. Please arrange all payroll reductions accordingly.

A seasoned veteran may be perfect for the contract. The barely qualified applicant is significantly cheaper.

*Qualifications are not independently verified.

Accept Perfectly Reasonable Contracts

Every contract offers a new combination of danger, reward, and regrettable staffing requirements.

Study the forecast, assemble an affordable team, prepare their equipment, and decide how much risk the company can absorb. Better adventurers improve the odds—but their continued survival creates an unfortunate expectation of continued payment.

Success is not about saving everyone. It is about choosing which disasters the business can survive.

Watch the Expedition Unfold

Your adventurers explore and fight automatically. Party composition, formation, equipment, experience, and preparation determine how they perform once the mission begins.

They may defeat monsters, discover treasure, suffer injuries, or demonstrate why the guild’s liability waiver contains so many pages.

There is no direct combat and no last-second rescue. Once the expedition is underway, management can only observe the consequences of its earlier decisions.

Manage the Survivors

Adventurers gain experience, develop lasting records, and suffer injuries that can follow them from one assignment to the next.

Survivors may grow into trusted veterans whose loss would be operationally inconvenient. Fallen employees leave empty roster positions, unpaid obligations, recovered equipment, and occasionally an heirloom worth more than they were.

Balance weekly payroll, morale, debt, recruitment, and recovery while trying to keep the company solvent long enough to reach the next reporting period.

Fail Forward

A successful guild is built on experience—most of it acquired immediately before bankruptcy.

When the company collapses, begin again with new recruits, contracts, and opportunities for professional development. Unlock lasting advantages, recover valuable heirlooms, and use what you learned to make slightly better-informed mistakes.

Features

  • Hands-off fantasy expeditions where preparation matters more than reflexes

  • Randomized recruits and contracts that force new staffing decisions each run

  • Party-fit and formation management with vulnerable front and rear positions

  • Persistent adventurers who gain experience, suffer injuries, and build histories

  • Permanent death and heirlooms that turn casualties into future opportunities

  • Weekly payroll, morale, debt, and roster management

  • Roguelite progression that carries advantages between failed guilds

  • Dry bureaucratic comedy applied to completely unreasonable fantasy disasters

  • No direct combat—your weapon is administrative judgment

The guild does not need a hero.

It needs someone willing to sign the liability waiver.
