About This Game

Nightveld is a bullet heaven (a reverse bullet hell) where your only weapon is the light you see with. Widen the beam to spot the swarm coming, or focus it to burn what's close, and go blind everywhere else. Survive to dawn and pick new powers.

Every night is longer and hungrier than the last.

You are the last light left in the darkness and your beam is your only weapon. Survive through endless waves of various types of shades, moths, hunters and many other classes of dark beings dead set on extinguishing you!

Every shade reads your light

The darkness of the veld is the home to the Drifter, Rusher, and Brute Shades, the Void, Veil, and Lantern Moths, the Ashborn, and many other enemies. Somewhere in the dark you'll also find the Gleamhare, a harmless thief made of stolen light, you can chase it if you can afford to look away from the swarm.

The dark has terrain. So do you.

Not all that's in the dark is meant to hurt you, sometimes they're just in the way, sometimes they are useful. Light up the cold braziers with your beam to get help holding your ground. Murk pools muffle up your vision and hearing, but they can be cleared up . Shades will pour out of the voidcracks if you don't keep them under check.

Omens and dares

Omens are night modifiers that make each night feel different, visually and in how you survive it. Mothstorm, Long Hunts, Swallowings, and more. From Night 4 on, one of thirteen omens will rewrite the Night's rules. Some will also have an optional dare, a challenge with a power up gift if you manage it, just in case things get too calm for you.

Build your light

As you level up, you unlock power ups between the nights. These powers span across five paths, Searing, Optics, Wards, Mobility and Economy, each one has three levels of upgrade to alter it. These powers change the way you play and how the enemies approach you, not only that, they also change how you look. On top of that, kills will drop light forms sometimes, blessings that give you extra attack power or safety. Every run, your power ups and blessing stack can be different.

Every run leaves a mark

When the dark finally gets you, a cairn will be placed at the night and location of your death. You can try to reach that Night again in a later run, and if you can kindle your cairn again, you will get a reward. Dive into the swarms and keep your kill streak.

Nightmare mode

Nightveld has a Normal and a Nightmare mode. In Nightmare, you don't get a minimap and the dark will come at you meaner and faster.

The music drowns with you

Nightveld has one continuous score, composed by Ghost Kitchen and mixed live as you play. It thins to almost nothing at dawn and builds back as the Night fills in, the murk pools smothers your light and the music.

Hold your light until dawn. Then do it again.
