A co-op colony sandbox where temperature and fluids run on a living cellular-automaton simulation. Terraform a dead world with friends, build a base that runs itself… then watch one leak bring it all down.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The hard part of OXYTOPIA — the simulation, and the interlocking network systems it makes possible — is already here and playable. Early Access lets us build the rest in the open: autonomous colonists, survival, mod support, and an endgame to launch toward. Multiplayer, especially, is best hardened with real players .
In particular, the number of possible states in the simulation is vast. Consequently, human insight becomes crucial.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“TBD — e.g. 'Around 12–18 months, depending on how the roadmap and community feedback shape up.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I plan to add autonomous colonists (with survival needs of their own), player and colonist survival systems (food, sleep, sanitation), simple mod support for community-made buildings/research/product trees, and an endgame goal. along with more content, biomes, balance, and polish throughout.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Playable and stable in both solo and online co-op. It currently includes the temperature and fluid cellular-automaton simulation; the liquid, gas, power, automation, and logistics networks; building, mining, smelting, and a research tree; and online multiplayer. It does not yet include autonomous colonists or survival needs — those are on the Early Access roadmap.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will likely increase as we add major content over Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Deterministic multiplayer means I can reproduce and fix exactly what you report, so bug reports are unusually powerful here. I'll take feedback on systems and balance, trade disaster stories, and — once mod support lands — hand you the tools to extend buildings, research, and the product tree yourselves. The high-difficulty mods the community dreams up are a big part of where I want this to go.”

About This Game

OXYTOPIA is a 2D co-op colony sandbox — inspired by Oxygen Not Included and Factorio — built on a single idea: a world where every tile is a cell in a living simulation. Temperature and fluids aren't faked. They emerge from a cellular automaton that runs by the same rules, the same way, every time — for everyone in the game.

So gather some friends, terraform a dead world into a comfortable colony… and then cause a truly spectacular disaster.

A world simulated cell by cell

Every tile of the map is a cell. Gases and liquids flow, mix, pressurize, and settle between them; heat conducts through rock, pipe, and air; water freezes into ice, boils into steam, and melts down to magma — all from simple rules applied a million times over. Nothing is scripted, so the emergent behavior — the helpful and the catastrophic alike — is real.

Build, dig, and research

Carve into distinct biomes — from frozen crust to caustic depths to a magma core — mine and smelt ore, and climb a research tree that unlocks power, thermal control, pipe insulation, and advanced logistics. Every new tech is another tool for taming — or breaking — the simulation.

Real multiplayer, because it's deterministic

OXYTOPIA's simulation is fully deterministic — and that's exactly what makes seamless co-op possible. Host a world and build together today; a lightweight, multiplayer-only Linux dedicated-server command-line tool is planned, so your colony can keep humming even when you've logged off.

Cause a spectacular disaster

A colony this interconnected fails in interconnected ways. One overheated pipe, one mislabeled valve, one gas leak into the wrong room — and the very simulation that made the place livable turns it into a cautionary tale. Rebuild, and do it better. Or worse.

Content creators — you're free to film us

You are welcome to record, stream, and publish video of OXYTOPIA — including monetized videos and live streams — across the full game, the free demo, and any Early Access playtest build. No permission required. Just have fun, and please show us your best disasters.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

I use generative AI tools in the development of OXYTOPIA. All AI output is directed, reviewed, and edited by me before it ships.

What AI is used for:

Branding art — the game's logo and app/store icons were designed with the help of AI models and are rendered in-engine as original vector/code artwork.
Source code — parts of the game's code were written with AI coding assistants.
What is not AI-generated: the in-game gameplay art (tiles, characters, buildings, items, plants) and all audio are hand-made or licensed from human creators.

At runtime: OXYTOPIA generates no content with AI while you play, and no player data is ever sent to any AI service during gameplay.
