Each level holds a shard of corrupted power that can transform your run. At first, you can embrace this power without consequence. But as you gather more shards, corruption begins to take hold.

Its negative effects introduce new mechanics that force you to adapt the way you fight. They stack and intensify at an ever-increasing pace.
