About This Game

Welcome to SUBCITY, fellow explorer. You are Bob, a small ninja hacker running very fast because you are very very hungry!!

Explore the underground, fight zombies, hack doors, and gather ingredients in order to cook the best pasta you will ever eat.

MORE ABOUT THE GAME

Below is a list of cool features that I have already implemented / am currently implementing in the game. This is the foundation of subrunner's universe.

Emergent gameplay

SUBCITY is an apocalyptic city populated with different species that rely on a fragile yet very immersive ecosystem, a bit like RAINWORLD (this is an amazing game, please play it !)

The game uses a GOAP (Goal Oriented Action Planning) system for creating deeply interesting emergent behaviour per species (for now). This is the core of the replayability. 2 runs will never be the same.

Combat-based hacking

Bob is a hacker, which means they hack stuff ! This will be the metroidvania/puzzle core loop of the game. Unlock doors, download files, exploit servers, etc.

BUT I don't want to do another CLI hacking game. subrunner is a fast-paced game, and this is why I am integrating Hacking directly into the core of the gameplay.

Think about it like a Mana+Skill system in any mage fantasy RPG. Download exploits from servers, then equip them into your laptop, and voilà! You are now able to run hacking abilities in the middle of a fight, while running!

I hate backtracking

Yep, the title says it. I hate when you need to walk back all the VERY LONG way to your base/key place to do things. BUT I also hate inconsistent fast travel systems that can break immersion if not well done. How should I fix this ?

SUBCITY is an underground city that expands deeper into the ground, and so it is a level-based non linear world. This means it makes sense to have an Elevator system (which is a kind of fast travel but) inherent to the game's universe. Mobs will also use this elevator. Think about it like a big vertical futuristic subway/metro :D

This way you can go from anywhere to anywhere in a few seconds ! This is still wip but this is another promising feature so that's why I put it here !

Players' feedback

The development of this game is a long-term project, which will evolve with players' feedback. I develop the game all by myself so it takes time, but please wishlist the game if you like the project ! This helps a lot.

Love you, bon appetite !
