What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“I want to keep improving the core systems, add more machines and production chains, improve the world generation and visuals, and make sure the game feels good during longer play sessions. Player feedback will help decide which parts need the most work first.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“My current estimate is roughly 12 to 18 months in Early Access.
That may change depending on player feedback, technical issues, and the amount of content that needs more iteration / balancing, but the plan is to keep updating the game throughout Early Access until the main factory progression, world systems, saving, performance, and overall game elements are in a good state for a full release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version focuses on the core factory sandbox concept: mining, belts, power, crafting, storage, basic world generation, saving, and early machine progression.
For the full version, I plan to expand the game with more production tiers, additional machines, more resources, better progression goals, improved balancing, more polished world generation and eventually storyline.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version includes basic early-game automation and processing, conveyor belts, pipes, resource gathering, crafting, power grids, storage, save/load slots, Steam cloud saves, procedural world generation, and a growing set of machines and build tools.

Multiplayer support is currently experimental. It is being actively worked on, but players should expect performance drops and possible bugs while the networking systems are developed further.

The game is still early in development, so balance, UI, performance, machine behavior, progression, multiplayer, and world generation are all expected to change during Early Access.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The Early Access price is planned to be lower while the game is still growing in content. The price may increase later as more content, features, story, and overall performance stability are added.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback will be a major part of deciding what to improve during Early Access. I plan to use Steam Discussions, reviews, bug reports, and direct player suggestions to track issues and understand which parts of the game are confusing, slow, unbalanced, unstable, or missing important quality-of-life features.

Feedback will help prioritize updates, especially around factory progression, machine balance, controls, UI clarity, performance, save stability, multiplayer testing, and new content ideas. I also plan to share development updates so players can see what is being worked on and comment on the direction of the game.”

About This Game

Doterra Industries is a 2D factory-building sandbox about transforming a distant mineral world into a connected industrial network.

Begin with a remote exploration vehicle, gather raw materials, and establish your first automated production lines. Expand from basic miners and conveyor belts into powered factories with machine tiers, research laboratories, fluid processing, oil refining, resource sorting, storage networks, and large-scale power generation.

As production grows, build rail networks with stations, signals, cargo wagons, and automated train schedules. Explore distant biomes for richer deposits, develop advanced Doterite technology, and deliver increasingly complex materials toward the construction of an orbital station.

The game currently includes a tiered research tree, automated Research Components, production statistics, configurable logistics, day and night cycles, weather, multiple resource grades, save history, Steam achievements, and experimental modding tools.

Doterra Industries is currently in Early Access, with its core factory, logistics, power, research, fluid, and railway systems already in place. Development is focused on expanding progression and late-game production, improving multiplayer, and continuing to polish balance, performance, and presentation with community feedback.
