What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Youyi is a real-time voice translation and speech relay tool that has to work across many real-world Windows setups: different microphones, audio devices, virtual audio drivers, games, voice chat software, and routing behaviors. Early Access gives us a practical way to release a version that is already useful, gather feedback from real users, and keep improving stability, compatibility, onboarding, and overall usability based on real usage rather than only internal testing.

We are using Early Access because this kind of product benefits heavily from iteration. Real user feedback helps us understand where setup is confusing, which hardware combinations are fragile, which workflows are the most valuable, and where we should focus next.”

Approximately how long will this software be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Youyi to remain in Early Access for about 6 to 12 months. That may change depending on stability work, compatibility findings, and how quickly we can reduce setup friction across more Windows hardware profiles.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan for the full version to be more polished, more stable, and easier to use across a wider range of Windows setups. Our current goals include improving the first-run experience, making audio routing easier to understand, reducing cold-start friction, improving compatibility across more hardware and drivers, and making advanced workflows easier to use with confidence.

We also plan to keep expanding and refining the product around the broader communication experience: clearer onboarding, smoother recovery from device or runtime problems, better long-session stability, and a more complete set of practical tools for live cross-language voice communication.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current Early Access version already supports the core use cases of the product, including:
- real-time microphone translation
- incoming voice translation
- Text Speak
- desktop subtitles
- virtual microphone routing
- bidirectional workflows
- a built-in translation experience included with the Steam package

The current Steam version is designed so players can launch the app and begin using the core translation path without setting up a separate external AI service first. Some advanced audio-routing scenarios may still require VB-CABLE, but VB-CABLE is not required for the application itself to launch or enter the main UI.”

Will this software be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We currently expect the price to remain the same during Early Access. If the product grows significantly in scope, polish, and supported workflow depth over time, we may revisit pricing closer to full release, but we do not currently plan a sudden Early Access price change.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to use community feedback as a direct input into development priorities. We will pay close attention to workflow pain points, setup failures, compatibility issues, translation quality feedback, and reports from players using different hardware and voice app combinations. For a product like Youyi, this kind of real usage feedback is especially valuable because many of the most important issues only appear in real sessions.

We plan to stay active through Steam community channels, release notes, update announcements, and direct player feedback collection. We also expect to keep adjusting priorities based on which use cases are helping people most, which advanced routes cause the most confusion, and which stability or onboarding issues are blocking players from getting value quickly.”

About This Software

Youyi is designed for live voice situations rather than simple offline text translation.

Typical use cases include:

- hearing others clearly but not understanding fast enough to respond

- talking with overseas players without forcing live foreign-language speaking

- typing first and letting the software speak for you

- switching back to your original voice for quick direct replies

- translating incoming voice from a selected app or live source

- combining subtitles, speech relay, routing, and bidirectional workflows in one tool

The current Steam build is designed so players can open the app and start with the built-in translation experience right away.

For the core Steam experience, no separate third-party service setup is required before getting started.

Key Features

- Real-time microphone translation

- Incoming voice translation

- Text Speak

- Desktop subtitles and bilingual display

- Bidirectional workflows

- Virtual microphone and audio routing support

- Ready-to-use built-in translation experience included in the Steam package

Important Notes

- Windows only

- Launching the application itself does not require VB-CABLE

- VB-CABLE is only needed after launch for specific audio routing scenarios

- Common examples include:

  - virtual microphone output

  - some bidirectional voice routing workflows

  - some music / audio relay workflows

- Users can still launch the app, enter the main UI, and use the built-in translation experience without installing VB-CABLE first

- SSD storage is strongly recommended for better first-run local warm-up behavior

One-Sentence Summary

Youyi is built to help you understand others faster and express yourself across languages inside real live voice sessions.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

This software uses generative AI to transcribe live speech, translate text and voice between languages, and optionally generate translated speech output. In the current Steam version, these capabilities are provided through the built-in local translation experience included with the application.

System Requirements

    Minimum:
    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: Windows 10 64-bit (21H2 or later)
    • Processor: Intel Core i5-10400 / AMD Ryzen 5 3600 or equivalent
    • Memory: 16 GB RAM
    • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 8 GB or equivalent dedicated GPU
    • DirectX: Version 11
    • Network: Broadband Internet connection
    • Storage: 25 GB available space
    • Sound Card: WASAPI-compatible recording and playback device
    • Additional Notes: SSD recommended; launching the app itself does not require VB-CABLE, which is only relevant for virtual mic output and some bidirectional or music-routing scenarios; lower-tier bidirectional startup adds about 4.4 - 5.0 GB RAM and 5.5 - 6.3 GB VRAM above baseline.
    Recommended:
    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: Windows 11 64-bit (22H2 or later)
    • Processor: Intel Core i7-12700 / AMD Ryzen 7 5700X or better
    • Memory: 32 GB RAM
    • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 12 GB / RTX 4070 or equivalent 12 GB VRAM GPU
    • DirectX: Version 11
    • Network: Broadband Internet connection
    • Storage: 25 GB available space
    • Sound Card: WASAPI-compatible dedicated or highly compatible onboard audio device
    • Additional Notes: Install the Steam library on SSD if possible; higher-tier bidirectional startup adds about 6.6 - 7.1 GB RAM and 9.0 - 9.9 GB VRAM above baseline; for steadier long-form bidirectional use, 32 GB RAM and 12 GB VRAM are recommended.
