What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access lets us build Network Engineer with the community. The game is a large systems simulation — building, networking, power, and business strategy — and player feedback on mechanics, balance, and content will shape the road to 1.0. We want Network Engineer to become a definitive hands-on datacenter sim for players who care about hardware, networks, and running a hosting business.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan to stay in Early Access for about one year. During that time we’ll refine core gameplay, expand systems and content, and prioritize community feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full release is planned to expand the Early Access foundation with larger systems and more strategic depth, including:

- Multiplayer — collaborate or compete with friends while building and managing your operations
- City locations — grow beyond the farm into larger sites with more complex layouts and logistics
- Deeper facility systems — fuel, thermodynamics, and more advanced cooling
- Staff and events — hire specialists, handle security issues, and respond to disruptive incidents
- Physical economy — buy and move hardware through stores/deliveries instead of only menu purchases
- Richer client contracts — higher-value deals and more varied service requirements

Exact features and timing may change based on playtesting and feedback. The goal is a deeper, more replayable simulation on top of the core loop that already works in Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Early Access already includes the core loop:

- Farm start — begin operations in a rural farm environment
- Base building — place and construct buildings and power infrastructure
- Hands-on interiors — enter buildings, install racks, and mount routers, switches, and servers
- Networking — cable devices, configure addressing, and keep services online
- Economy — spend cash to expand, earn income from clients
- Client contracts — sign clients, meet requirements, and go live
- Power management — keep hardware powered as your site grows

This is a playable foundation, not a vertical slice of the final game. Systems will deepen and expand throughout Early Access.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. Early Access is priced lower to reflect the current state and reward early adopters. As features and content grow, the price will rise toward the full-release price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community input is central to our Early Access plan. We intend to:

- Share regular development updates and progress reports
- Run playtests focused on bugs, balance, and clarity
- Gather votes and feedback on upcoming features and priorities
- Discuss ideas openly on Discord and Steam
- Involve players when designing multiplayer so it fits how people actually want to play
- Our aim is a game shaped with the people playing it.”

About This Game

Every tech giant starts somewhere. In Network Engineer, that somewhere is a farm — a few buildings, some hardware, and a plan to host other people’s digital lives.

You begin small: a modest plot, limited cash, and enough gear to stand up a basic hosting operation. Place and construct buildings, wire them into a power grid, then step inside to do the real work — mount routers, switches, and servers in racks, run cables, assign IPs, and build a network that actually functions.

Clients will not wait for a perfect setup. Sign contracts, meet their capacity and uplink requirements, bring services online, and earn income as long as you keep the lights on and the packets flowing. Fall short on power, performance, or connectivity, and your reputation — and revenue — take the hit.

Grow carefully. Unlock new blueprints, expand your footprint, upgrade your racks, and scale from a backyard shed into a full hosting operation. Balance spending against contract income, plan your power budget, and design networks that can survive the next client signing.

Network Engineer is a hands-on datacenter builder for players who want the satisfaction of making infrastructure work — not just watching bars fill up.

Features

  • Build and expand a farm-based hosting business from almost nothing

  • Construct buildings and generators, then manage power across your site

  • Enter interiors to rack-mount routers, switches, and servers

  • Cable networks, configure addressing, and keep topology working

  • Sign client contracts, go live, and earn ongoing income

  • Progress from a small rural setup toward a serious datacenter operation

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Network Engineer leverages generative artificial intelligence to enhance gameplay immersion and realism. AI-driven systems dynamically simulate customer behavior, hardware issues, and environmental challenges, creating unique scenarios and ensuring no two playthroughs are alike. Your feedback will help refine these systems!

Some assets within the game are generated with the help of AI, this includes but is not limited to:
- Contracts (Company Names, Locations etc.)
- Hardware Names (For the networking device)
- Company Logos
