What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“KeyPet is built around long-term desktop use, and that experience benefits from real player feedback. Early Access lets us test comfort, performance, character pacing, and unlock balance across more Windows setups before the full release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect KeyPet to stay in Early Access for about 6 to 12 months, depending on feedback, content production, and performance polish.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to include more polished character behavior, additional characters or character sets, improved gallery presentation, better desktop comfort options, performance improvements, and more complete localization.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version includes the core desktop companion experience, typing-driven reactions, character unlocks, gallery viewing, tray controls, and two-character idle pairing. Some content, presentation, and quality-of-life options are still being improved.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We do not plan to change the price of the base game. KeyPet’s base game is free during Early Access, and we currently plan for the base game to remain free after the full 1.0 release.

Optional paid content (such as character DLCs) may be added during and after Early Access. New DLC will be priced when announced. We do not currently plan to raise prices on already-released DLC; if that ever changes, we will announce it clearly on the Steam store page and community hub in advance.

Buying or playing during Early Access does not require a later purchase of the base game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will use Steam announcements, community discussions, and player feedback to prioritize comfort options, bug fixes, character behavior improvements, and future content.”

About This Game

KeyPet uses local keyboard input events only to trigger desktop character animations. It does not record, store, transmit, or analyze the text you type.

KeyPet is a pixel-art desktop companion game for Windows. Your characters stay on your desktop, react to your typing, and give small animated responses while you work, write, or browse.

Current features include:

• Pixel characters that live on your desktop

• Typing-driven action feedback

• Character unlocks and a gallery

• Two-character idle pairing

• Tray controls and basic window behavior

During Early Access, KeyPet will continue improving character behavior, performance, interaction feedback, and future content. Player feedback will help shape pacing, unlocks, and long-term desktop comfort.

Privacy note: KeyPet listens for local keyboard input events to trigger character animations. It does not record, store, or upload the text you type.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Generative AI tools were used during development to assist with parts of concept art, character drafts, draft store assets, localization drafts, and operational copy drafts. All AI-assisted content was manually reviewed, edited, integrated, and approved by the development team before being included in the game or store page.

The game does not use generative AI at runtime to create dialogue, story content, images, audio, or other player-facing content.
