What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We love these types of games and wanted to create our own one. We really want feedback from others that love these types of games and this gives us that opportunity to make it even better for everyone in the community. This also supports us to keep creating things that we love and share that with others”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Planned for 4 months”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Balancing, additional content broken down into bosses, enemies, items, weapons we initially planned for DLC we want to add in as much as we can for free with the full version release.

We do still plan for DLC after full version release but we want to get as much in as we can ;)”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“MEATBALLS is fully playable from start to finish in Early Access. The current build includes:

11 playable meatball characters, each with unique stats and abilities
30+ weapons with a level-up and evolution system — combine weapons to unlock powerful tiers
55 items with synergistic build possibilities
10 unique bosses, one per level, each with distinct archetype AI and attack patterns
4 wave types including swarm events and streak rewards
Full wave shop for purchasing upgrades between rounds
Solo and 4-player co-op (LAN/online via Steam)
Localization in 8 languages
Full controller support including Steam Deck
Achievements and leaderboards

Content and balance will continue to be expanded throughout Early Access based on community feedback. Please refer to the "About This Game" section for the full feature overview.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes early access will see a very reduced price. After full version we will up the price”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We want to hear feedback all of the way through the game, our website and discord as channels”

About This Game

ROLL. SHOOT. SURVIVE. TRY NOT TO FALL APART.

At the bottom of the universe there's a fridge, and at the bottom of the fridge every meatball waits its turn for The Grinder. Most roll quietly toward the heat. You decided not to.

MEATBALLS is a fast, juicy top-down bullet-hell roguelike. Pick a meatball, dive into the arena, and survive 20 levels of escalating waves, mini-bosses, and five multi-phase bosses who would very much like to plate you. Hoover up XP, gold, weapons and stat-warping items to build a meatball powerful enough to escape — but watch your structural integrity: stack too much and you start to come apart at the seams. Literally.

A ROGUELIKE THAT PUNISHES GREED

Most games of this kind punish you for grabbing too little. MEATBALLS punishes you for grabbing too much. Every item bolts more power onto your meatball — and more weight onto its frame. Push past your structural integrity and the seams give mid-fight: damage-over-time, falling apart, the whole messy business. The best runs aren't the greediest. They're the ones that knew exactly how much they could carry to the door.

ELEVEN MEATBALLS, ELEVEN PLAYSTYLES

  • Classic — the OG. No gimmick, all grit.

  • Spicy — burns everything nearby. Lives fast, hits hard.

  • Frozen — chills the arena to a crawl and outlasts it.

  • Golden — luck and gold roll downhill toward you; shop's cheaper too.

  • Shadow — dash into invisibility, leave a corpse, vanish.

  • Electric — every hit can fork chain lightning into the crowd.

  • Toxic — leave poison clouds in your wake; win by attrition.

  • Royal — drag treasure to yourself like it's owed.

  • Cosmic — stretch bullet-time until a second lasts a minute.

  • Inferno — the glass cannon of glass cannons. Apocalyptic damage, paper HP.

  • Legendary — what waits past the final boss. Perfect at everything. Earn it.

You start as the Classic and unlock the rest by surviving.

30 WEAPONS. 55 ITEMS. ENDLESS BUILDS.

  • 30 weapons across ranged, melee, grenades, beams, orbitals, summons, boomerangs and chain-lightning — from the humble Pea Shooter and Boomstick to the Mincegun, Rail Skewer, Sizzle Beam, Orbiting Olives and the legendary Excalimeat. Level them up, combine duplicates, and chase tier drops.

  • 55 items in 5 rarity tiers, from Common scraps to game-warping Legendaries like Phoenix Feather, Bullet Hell Matrix and the Infinity Stone.

  • Item synergies — pair the right gear for build-defining combos: Blood Frenzy, Deadeye, Armageddon, Time Lord and more.

  • Spend between waves at the shop. Bank gold, gamble on rarities, and decide how close to your integrity limit you dare to push.

FIVE BOSSES WHO WANT YOU FOR DINNER

Every fourth level ends with a multi-phase boss, each with their own attacks, enrage and a Borderlands-style intro card:

  • THE BUTCHER — Master of the Meat Grinder. "Grinds meatballs for a living. And, honestly, for fun."

  • MAMA MEATBALL — The Mother of All Meatballs. "Raised six thousand children. Ate the ones who whined."

  • GENERAL GRILLSWORTH — Commander of the Charred Legion. "Never lost a war. Mostly because he started all of them."

  • THE SAUCE KING — Ruler of the Flavor Realm. "You lack... FLAVOR."

  • THE MEATRIX — Reality's Final Course. "There is no spoon. Only fork. Run."

Plus 20 mini-bosses and 20 enemy types with real AI — healers, spawners, magnets, freezers, necromancers and more.

CRANK THE HEAT

  • Four doneness levels — Rare, Medium, Well Done, and Congratulations (you absolute madball).

  • Run mutators — Glass Cannon, Horde, Swarm Lord, Big Game and others to remix every run.

  • Daily Run — one seed, one shot, same for everyone. Climb the board.

  • Themed waves, kill-streak bullet time, dashes, status effects, and a juice budget that never lets up.
