About This Game

14th October, 2028, Australia is attacked from within.

Canberra is struck by a massive blast that wipes out the seat of government. Simultaneously, a network of EMP devices ground the Royal Australian Air Force and cut off communications for the whole Australian military. The Australian army fight until ammunition is exhausted, and without logistical support, is overrun in key battlefields. Special Forces units disappear into the bush to evade capture.

You command Two Patrol, 3 Troop, Special Air Service Regiment (SASR) - six men against an enemy nobody has identified yet, fighting through the bush, the high country and the coast for what remains of the country.

Supported by the last remaining uncaptured major Australian military asset, HMAS Rankin, Two Patrol are the last defence against an unknown horrifying enemy.

Cannon Fodder, grown up

Inspired by the Amiga classic Cannon Fodder, use your mouse and keyboard to control your team. Joypads support too. Arm your fire teams, and use many types of weapon such as grenades, flashbangs, smoke, missiles and more.

Metal Gear style stealth.

Throw sticks to distract the enemy, cough and whistle to draw them near, use the dark and stay out of the light to take down missions in silence.

Command the patrol

  • Split into fireteams - send a pair forward while the rest hold the tree line.

  • Set rules of engagement - weapons free or weapons tight, then go kinetic on your signal.

  • Hold, advance, regroup - every soldier is one bullet from gone, so how you move them matters more than how many you have.

  • Bring them home - Sarge, Knox, Slater, Riv, Ferry and NZSAS secondment Kitten are yours to command.

Not just action

A real tactical engine sits at the centre of For the Common Wealth, the enemy can see, hear, they get suspicious, they panic, they call over other enemy.  FTCW isn't just run and gun, tactics matter.

Eyes up first

Put the recon drone up and read the ground before you commit. A live aerial feed that drifts on the wind and bobs on its altitude hold, with the sensor grain, scanlines and signal warnings of real kit. See the patrol routes, count the sentries, find the way in - then close it down and go to work.

Quiet, or very loud

  • A suppressed bolt-action that rewards patience - plant your feet and let the shot settle

  • Claymores to set, and enemy claymores to disarm

  • Timed and triggered charges, grenades, a thrown stone to pull a sentry off his route

  • Paint a target with the laser designator and call the airstrike in

  • Use a surgical suppressed SMG or send lead downrange with a Light Machine Gun.

Thinking enemies

Guards patrol, investigate a noise, take cover, raise the alarm - and smoke, whistle, mutter and doze while they wait for something to happen. Some are brave. Some are cowards who will break and run. They hunt you with torches, flares and night vision, and when the last of them realises he is alone, he does not politely wait to be found.

The enemy is numerous, well-equipped, dug in and confident, but Two Patrol will show them their confidence is misplaced.

The campaign

Over two dozen missions across a recognisable Australia - Swan Island, the Yarra Ranges, the Black Spur, Wilson's Promontory, Tullamarine, the Daintree, the Northern Territory cattle stations, the Port of Melbourne. Night sabotage, hostage rescue, assassination, reconnaissance, and camp assaults against overwhelming odds.

Rescued hostages fall in behind you. Getting them out is your problem too.

Built by hand

A custom C engine built from the ground up on SDL3, FTCW is a 2D, story-led game that respects the classics.

A homage

For the Common Wealth owes its debts openly: Cannon Fodder and Syndicate first, with nods to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Metal Gear.

For the Common Wealth is based in an alternative history and future of Australia, with hand crafted levels, real voice acting, and a developed background lore, FTCW seeks to pay tribute to real classic gaming.

Made in Australia.
