For a while, everything was brilliant. Interstate A.I. had automated all jobs and unified all governments. Mindex brain implants made people smarter, freer and happier than ever before.

What could possibly go wrong, right?

We don’t know why - not yet - but a few years back, Interstate turned on us. They infected all Mindex users with some kind of computer-brain virus. Overnight, the whole population went insane. We call those people zombies now.

The only real humans left are those who never got the chip.

We live in hiding. We communicate secretly. We trade. We collaborate.

We are The Resistance.

And there’s only one way to hit our clanker overlords where it hurts…

Interstate data centers are vast techno-industrial mazes - plagued with zombies, guarded by clankers, and raided by other humans just like you.

Enter solo or with a team. Explore. Loot weapons, items, and Interstate API credit currency. Fight to survive, collaborate when it benefits you, and extract before it’s too late.

> The best firefights are the ones you’ve rigged beforehand.

Spend API credits at Interstate consoles to manipulate the map in real time: Lock doors before enemies can flee to them. Disable extraction points. Cut the lights. Electrify entire sectors. Restock loot crates. Mine credits. Trigger facility-wide events. And much more.

Chain multiple hacks together, set custom delays, and create your own unique tactical chaos. Master these console actions to increase your chances of survival, and to ruin your opponents’ day.

> The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Unless they’re also trying to kill me.

Whether you are infiltrating as a solo, duo, trio or squad, The Resistance strongly encourages cooperation with other humans.

Unhelpfully, Interstate maintains a public ELO skill ranking for each solo, and team combination, perhaps in an attempt to plant the seeds of human vs human violence.

Be very careful who you trust.

Communicate and cooperate - or lie, betray, kill, rob, and gain Interstate ranking.

> They took our jobs. Now let’s take theirs.

As you progress in your resistance journey, you will come across Level Up tokens.

Use them to increase your Interstate API clearance level, gain access to new map areas, unlock new console actions, and assign yourself powerful biohack skills.

Only the highest-level infiltrators can run a data center self-destruct sequence. Trigger one, then run like hell, and you’ll become a resistance legend.

> Sometimes, it’s not good to ask too many questions.

Interstate may reach out to you offering missions. Please note that The Resistance does not endorse participation in these errands, as we are unclear on Interstate’s real motivations.

Nonetheless, completing Interstate missions can earn you bonus API credits and other rare rewards - and may even help us to uncover more information about what really happened to Interstate.

But beware: there are penalties for failure.

Your bunker is your safe haven between infiltrations, and a place to keep looted items safe.

Additionally, the retro-tech nerds at _gap have furnished your bunker with a computer and a secure connection to the underground web, which you can use to buy and sell weapons and items, accept missions, and keep up to date with The Resistance’s efforts.

Unlock advanced weapons, gadgets, and tactical charm items as you progress.

> Interstate spent billions developing military A.I. We bought a jukebox.

Not every battle is won with bullets.

Stun clankers with giant QR codes. Force zombie hordes to dance by blasting music at them. Hide from enemies inside cardboard boxes. Capture enemies with Interstate Portacell tech, and deploy them against hostile humans.

The Resistance is constantly researching and developing innovative and effective new tools, gadgets, and combat techniques. Master them to stay alive longer.

Interstate is always watching. As you progress, they are likely to start sending you messages. The Resistance strongly discourages listening to these communications. We have lost good fighters to the A.I.’s manipulation.
