“Vigilum is my first commercial game. Launching in Early Access allows me to gather real player feedback to balance the game's mechanics and Dr. Hayden's behavior, ensuring the final experience meets the standard I'm aiming for. On a personal note, this release is also a leap of faith. A recent change in my work situation pushed me to stop waiting and commit fully to this. Waiting for the perfect moment is what I always did, and it's exactly why nothing ever shipped. I'd rather take the leap than let circumstances delay what I've been building toward. If this opens a path toward sustainable indie development, even better.”

“Approximately two months. During this time, any bugs that arise will be addressed and, if feedback supports it, changes or requested features that add real value to the game will be implemented. I'll be building the assets needed for the final sequence (these differ from the base assets already in the game, which are medieval assets) and, if I don't have the funding to hire someone to create them, I'll do it myself.”

This requires custom assets and new systems built on top of the existing framework. It will take some time to get right.”

Vigilum is a first-person survival horror game set on a rural estate in medieval Europe. Survive the nights, complete the ritual, outlast the darkness.

THE ESTATE

A rural family property on the outskirts of medieval Europe, surrounded by beautiful natural woodland.

  • The House - Once the family home, now a base for rest and preparation. Craft materials in the Workshop for sigil casting, eat to keep your energy, or brew tea for a quick remedy.

  • The Barn - Past the fields, a large wooden structure houses the Alchemy Lab, where herbs are distilled into extracts and potions to gain an edge against what hunts at night.

  • The Woodshed - An old structure once used by the estate's former matriarch for her craft. Starter materials can be found here. Past it, hidden from plain sight, lies a Shrine she once tended, seeking aid from higher entities.

PREPARE. CRAFT. ENDURE.

During the day, several options are available to manage your resources wisely.

  • GATHER- Find herbs in the gardens or in the wild. Each one carries a different virtue... or curse.

  • ALCHEMIZE - Grind and distill your findings in the alchemy lab to brew potions and elixirs that give you an edge.

  • CRAFT - Convert raw materials into chalk or charcoal, essential for sigil creation.

  • CAST - Draw sigils during the night to empower yourself or weaken the hunter's grasp.

  • REST - Sleep to restore energy and replenish your nourishment at home.

Each action takes time. Plan accordingly.

SURVIVE THE NIGHT

Place Vylem, the gemstone of Dreams, on the ritual grounds. At 23:00, the energy settles... the ritual begins. Dr. Hayden arrives at the stroke of midnight. He investigates, adapts, and remembers.

  • TRACKS - Every room visited, every route taken, every item used. He builds a profile and acts on it.

  • OBSERVES - Every sigil placed, offering made and herb gathered. He perceives the energies around him and adjusts his awareness accordingly.

  • COUNTERS - From each encounter, he forms a new approach to better anticipate your moves and hunt you more efficiently.

  • LEARNS - As each night progresses, he unlocks new abilities to further challenge you. Never settle on one strategy as he will find a way around it.

Survive until dawn for seven nights.

I use generative AI exclusively as a temporary tool for rapid prototyping and placeholder content during early solo development. All AI-generated elements in Vigilum are planned to be fully replaced with custom, human-made assets for the final v1.0 release.

-> 3D Models: I used generative AI tools to create two 3D assets (the Vylem gem and the Blood Sigil element). These are temporary placeholders, and I am currently prioritizing remaking them myself during the Early Access phase.

-> 2D Assets: A few UI icons and images were generated with AI. I intend to commission a professional artist to completely replace these 2D elements as soon as funding allows.
