Anomagram is a spot-the-anomaly horror set on a night shift moderating a short-video feed. Ten posts arrive each night; review them one at a time and approve or quarantine. Most are somebody's ordinary day. Most of them. Miss one and you fail — flag a clean one and you fail too. Eight nights.

About This Game

Midnight. Ten more slices of someone else's ordinary life.

From the night you sign the contractor agreement, you are the moderator on the night shift. You sit at the terminal you were issued, review each short video that comes in, and decide: approve, or quarantine. That was supposed to be the whole job.

Sometimes, something is in the frame that should not be.

[The job]

  • Ten posts arrive each night. Review them one at a time, in order.

  • Approve if nothing is wrong. Quarantine if you find something that is not normal. Decisions cannot be undone.

  • Missing one fails you. So does flagging a clean post. Over-quarantining counts as exactly the same kind of error.

  • A single error voids the shift. You will work that same night again. You will not be told what you got wrong.

  • The contract runs eight nights. See it through.

[An anomaly can be anywhere on screen]

Most of them are in the video: something crossing behind a window, the shape of a dog, the direction water falls. But on some nights the footage is entirely normal and the anomaly is still there — in the desktop wallpaper, in the shape of a button in the app. Some anomalies exist to make you doubt where you were looking.

[Your predecessor left things on this machine]

The feed is not the whole stage. You are working inside a full desktop environment: messages from the moderator before you that grow stranger as the nights go on, a work journal recovering itself a little at a time, an employee handbook that keeps getting revised, and the intranet portal of YONAKA Inc., the agency that placed you here. Everything you need for the job is probably already on this machine.
