What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Bound to Rot is built around systems that need real players to break them, itemization balance, depth scaling, entropy combat, and the Delve node economy all need volume that solo development can't replicate. Early Access lets me tune the game against how people actually play it, not how we think they will.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“12 to 18 months after the early access release. The core loop is playable now. That window is for the seasonal system, ladders, class expansion, and the deeper Anima biomes to reach a state we are proud to call 1.0.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Early Access ships with three classes, one Anima biome, and the core Anima loop. The full version adds more classes with distinct skill trees, additional biomes with unique enemy factions and node types, the full seasonal ladder system with competitive rankings, endgame depth mechanics, and the complete item pool including set items and Legendary uniques.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The full core loop is functional, character creation, Anima descent, branching node choices, permadeath, and extraction are all in. Combat, itemization across all five rarity tiers, the spatial inventory, and darkness mechanics are complete. What's missing is content volume, additional classes, and the seasonal infrastructure. What's here is tight and playable.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We're not planning on changing the price when we leave early access”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Directly. Balance numbers, Anima difficulty curves, item affix pools, and node reward tuning are all things the community will have real input on. We'll run public feedback threads after each update mainly via discord, track what builds people are finding broken or useless, and be transparent about what's coming next. The seasonal model means the game resets regularly, that's a natural rhythm for gathering data and shipping changes that matter.”

About This Game

Bound to Rot is a dark fantasy action RPG built around one ruthless question: how far can an angel descend before the mortal vessel carrying them rots away?

You are an angel, a soul reborn into a Vessel of your choosing. Each descent into the Anima is a gamble of flesh and fate: clear rooms, gather rare gear, and push deeper... or extract while your body still holds. Stray too far from the Pulse, linger too long, and the darkness will collect what you owe.

Die, and the vessel is gone. Everything. Gone.

An Angel in a Mortal Vessel

Reincarnate as a Pyrrhian knight, a Myronian warrior, or a Theran fighter. Each vessel carries a passive gift of its own, and new vessels unlock as your soul proves itself in the deep: the Myronian at Depth 10, the Theran at Depth 20. The soul endures. The vessel does not. The deeper you fall, the faster it rots.

Progression Without Levels

There is no XP and no skill tree. Character power comes entirely from items: the "level" on screen is nothing more than a readout of your gear's average item level.

Your equipment lives in your organs: Lungs, Heart, Liver, Intestine, Kidney. Organs grant passive bonuses only, and instead of durability, they carry Rot. Every drop arrives unidentified and inert: you cannot equip what you cannot name. Identify it with The Fool, or gamble it away.

The Chart and the Tarot

Clear a wave and the Pulse awakens. Touch it to open the Anima Chart: a node-graph of the descent where you pick your own route to the next checkpoint. Clear a checkpoint and its relic offers a choice of three run-scoped boons: more light, more speed, tougher enemies, richer rewards.

Arcana cards drop as quarters and stack to a full 4/4. They are not loot. They are currency. The Fool identifies, The Magician upgrades, The Emperor forces a mythic, Wheel and Death reroll, Justice balances, The Devil duplicates, The Star rerolls gem abilities. Spend them, or die carrying them.

Itemization That Actually Matters

Six damage types: Physical, Fire, Cold, Lightning, Magic, Rot. Hundreds of affixes. A spatial grid inventory that forces real decisions about what you carry out.

Items roll on drop and never change: what you find is what you get. Common scrap, or a Mythic whose unique red-text mod rewrites how your build works. Five legendary uniques have real gameplay effects: BANG BANG, GLASS CANNON, VAMPIRIC, JUGGERNAUT, SECOND WIND.

Abilities Through Gems

Socket gems into Q, W, E and R for your active abilities, and keep a T flask charged with one drink per wave. Build your bar from what the Anima gives you.

Dark, Deterministic Combat

Hit resolution runs through an Entropy System: no pure RNG streaks, no invisible dice rolls. Accuracy, evasion and per-entity entropy values produce combat that feels fair even when it kills you.

Seasonal Ladders

Every season wipes the slate. Climb the competitive ladder, race to depth, and carve your name into the rankings before the reset erases everything and the cycle begins again.
