The cave doesn't chase you. It waits for your mistakes.

Tunnelborn is a grid-based survival dig built around one rule: time only moves when you do. Every step you take advances the world. Monsters move. Lava spreads. Danger closes in, exactly one beat after you do.

Stand still and everything waits. Move and the cave responds.

Every action has a cost

Time is the currency, not turns. Walking costs one unit. Digging costs two or more depending on the tile. Take a detour and you've just pulled every threat one step closer. There's no randomness to bail you out — when you die, you'll know exactly why.

Darkness changes everything

The caves aren't fully lit and information is scarce. Darkness forces decisions you can't fully see coming. Flares push it back, temporarily.

Risk is a choice. Rewards are not free.

The best fossils and upgrades are never on the safe route. Going deeper means more danger closing in faster. Every run you decide how far is too far.

Progress that carries forward

Collect fossils, complete museum collections, earn coins and spend them on permanent upgrades that make each descent a little more readable than the last.
