A top-down action roguelite where a very angry rabbit fights through rat-filled rooms to recover his little brother snack. Each room gets more violent, each victory forces a new malus, and every run turns Pinpin into a tired ball of rage.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“A Nibble Tale is already fully playable, but we believe it will become a better game by being developed alongside its community. Early Access will allow players to influence the game's evolution through their feedback. In addition to improving balance and game feel, we plan to expand the game with new enemies, bosses, rooms, upgrades, events, and gameplay features, while refining progression and replayability based on community input.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect A Nibble Tale to remain in Early Access for around 6 to 12 months. This may change depending on player feedback and the amount of polish and content needed before the full release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to include additional content and expanded gameplay systems. We plan to add new enemies, bosses, rooms, upgrades, events, unlockables, and other gameplay features throughout Early Access. We also expect to improve progression systems, balancing, visuals, audio, quality-of-life features, and Steam integration. While the core gameplay loop is already playable, we expect it to evolve throughout Early Access based on community feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version already includes the core gameplay loop: top-down action combat, room-based runs, several enemy types (like the final boss), permanent progression through the gym, upgrades, maluses, keyboard and controller support, Steam achievements, and Steam Cloud saves. Additional content, gameplay systems, balancing, visuals, audio, and overall polish are planned throughout Early Access.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to increase the price when A Nibble Tale leaves Early Access, reflecting the additional content and features added during development. If our plans change, we will communicate them clearly in advance.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback will play an important role throughout Early Access. This is my favorite game I've ever made, and now it's time to make it yours too. Your ideas and feedback will help shape future content, influence gameplay features, refine progression systems, and guide development priorities. Alongside balancing and quality-of-life improvements, we plan to actively gather feedback through the Steam Community hub, follow discussions closely, and regularly share updates as A Nibble Tale evolves.”

About This Game

In A Nibble Tale, someone made one mistake too many: they touched Pinpin's snack.

Pinpin is small, cute, probably far too nervous, and absolutely not ready to forgive. Fight through a chain of rooms filled with rats, grenadiers, shamans, tanks, spiders, elite enemies, and a miniboss in a fast-paced action game where objectives change, pressure rises, and your character gets more exhausted as the run goes on.

The rules are simple: clear the room, survive a pressure wave, or hunt down a priority target before it escapes. But after each completed room, the game forces you to choose a malus. Pinpin becomes less comfortable to play, monsters become more dangerous, future rooms get more crowded, and even your little brother's help can turn into another problem.

This is not a heroic quest to save the world. This is a story about a stolen snack, rats who went too far, and a rabbit settling the score room by room.

Key Features :

  • Fast and readable top-down action combat.

  • Short runs built around successive rooms.

  • Varied room objectives: elimination, survival, priority target.

  • Cumulative malus system after each room.

  • Hero, monster, room, super, and little brother maluses.

  • Enemy roles with distinct behaviors: fast rats, grenadiers, shamans, tanks, spiders, and a miniboss.

  • Dynamic waves and constant pressure during survival objectives.

  • Larger, tougher elite priority targets that try to run away.

  • Permanent progression through the gym.

  • Keyboard and controller support.

  • Steam achievements and Steam Cloud integration planned/supported depending on the build.

Gameplay Loop :

  • 1. Leave the gym.

  • 2. Enter a room generated from a pool of layouts.

  • 3. Survive the imposed objective.

  • 4. Choose a malus.

  • 5. Push forward to the miniboss, then into the sewers.

  • 6. Die, progress, come back stronger, and try again.

The further a run goes, the less comfortable Pinpin becomes to control. That is intentional. Fatigue, punishing choices, and increasingly aggressive rooms are core to the game's identity.

Maluses

Maluses are the main engine of difficulty.

  • Hero maluses exhaust Pinpin: reduced healing, unstable rage, dash exhaustion, reduced max health.

  • Monster maluses empower enemies: elites, vengeful rats, stronger tanks, faster grenadiers.

  • Room maluses make future rooms more aggressive: more rats, more pressure, faster spawns.

  • Super maluses are rare and brutal: permanent poison, reduced max health, famine, exhaustion.

  • Little brother maluses can appear if your little brother helps Pinpin, because even help can come at a cost.

Tone and World

A Nibble Tale is built on contrast: a cute rabbit, a colorful world, and absurd cartoon violence over a deliberately tiny stakes problem. The game does not take itself too seriously, but it fully embraces punitive difficulty and runs that can spiral out of control fast.

Game Status

The game is currently in beta.

Content, balancing, visuals, rooms, enemies, and maluses are still evolving. The current version is focused on testing run pacing, combat readability, permanent progression, Steam integrations, and replayability.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

'm a solo developer making this game with a very limited budget. While I was able to hire artists for some of the game's assets, I simply couldn't afford to commission every piece of content needed to complete the project.

Because of that, I used generative AI as a supplementary tool for certain assets and to assist with English translation. Since English isn't my native language, AI also helped me ensure that dialogue, jokes, and other text conveyed the intended meaning naturally.

Whenever possible, I chose to work with human artists, and all AI-generated content was carefully reviewed, edited, and integrated by me. My goal was never to replace artists, but to make it possible to finish the game as an independent developer.
