What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The game is being released in Early Access because the core Backrooms survival experience is playable, but the project is still expanding. I want players to be able to experience the current version while helping shape future levels, quests, entities, items, balancing, and mechanics through feedback.

Early Access also allows me to improve the game based on how players actually explore, survive, and interact with the world, especially in areas such as level design, entity behaviour, puzzles, and progression.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I currently expect the game to remain in Early Access for less than a year, depending on player feedback and the amount of additional content added during development.

The timeline may change if larger features, extra levels, or major improvements are added during Early Access.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to include more Backrooms-inspired levels, more unique original areas, additional quests, more items, expanded entity variety, improved entity behaviour and animations, and more polished level transitions.

I also plan to expand the lore, add more puzzle-like sections, improve balancing, and add more uses for items and mechanics such as teleportation and time manipulation. The full version is expected to feel larger, more polished, and more complete than the Early Access version.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version currently includes the core playable Backrooms survival experience. Players can explore multiple Backrooms-inspired levels, move between areas through level transitions, search for useful items, encounter hostile entities, and complete the currently implemented objectives and quests.

The game also includes the main player movement systems, exploration mechanics, basic inventory and item usage, environmental hazards, and the current version of the headquarters/portal area. The headquarters acts as a central area connected to the Backrooms, with locked doors and systems that can be expanded as development continues.

The game is fully playable in its current state, but it is still in active development. Some areas, quests, entity behaviours, animations, balancing, and level layouts may be improved or expanded during Early Access. Players should expect a playable but unfinished experience, with possible bugs and changes as development continues.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I plan to increase the price when the game leaves Early Access, as the full version is expected to include more levels, quests, entities, items, mechanics, and polish than the Early Access version.

The exact price change will depend on the amount of content added during development.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback will be important during Early Access. I plan to use Steam reviews, Steam discussions, and Discord feedback to identify bugs, improve balancing, and decide which areas, mechanics, levels, and quality-of-life improvements should be prioritised.

Player suggestions may influence future content, especially if certain levels, entities, items, puzzles, or mechanics are widely requested. Feedback will also help decide which parts of the game need more polish or clearer objectives.”

About This Game

A survival-horror experience inspired by the Backrooms, where ordinary spaces twist into endless corridors and abandoned rooms. Explore unsettling environments, search for useful items, avoid hostile entities, and uncover the systems connecting each level together.

The game focuses on exploration, survival, and atmosphere. Each area is designed to feel unfamiliar and unsafe, with different layouts, hazards, entities, and ways to progress. Players must move carefully, pay attention to their surroundings, and use the items they find to survive and continue deeper into the Backrooms.

After you no-clip into level 0, you must first locate the headquarters. This location acts as a central point between levels, with computers, scientists and quests. From there, you can explore Backrooms-inspired levels, discover new routes, complete objectives, and encounter strange environments that behave in unexpected ways.

Current features include:

  • Multiple explorable Backrooms-inspired levels

  • A headquarters/portal area connected to the main game world

  • Hostile entities that the player must avoid or survive against

  • Items with practical uses during exploration and puzzle solving

  • Level transitions between different areas

  • Objectives and quests that guide progression

  • Environmental hazards and unsettling locations

  • Exploration-based survival gameplay

  • Early lore and worldbuilding elements

  • Atmospheric horror-focused level design

As development continues, the game is planned to expand with more levels, additional entities, more items, deeper lore, improved animations, more puzzle-like sections, and extra mechanics such as teleportation and time manipulation.
