What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access will allow us to develop Mictla alongside the community.

Games in this genre live and die by the quality of their strategic decisions. Balance, synergies, difficulty, build variety, and replayability are elements that can only be truly refined with the help of a passionate community.

With your help, we want to refine the combat system, game balance, and the synergies between cards, relics, and familiars, as well as the overall pacing of each run. We also plan to introduce new mechanics, content, and improvements based on community feedback and experiences.

Our goal is for Mictla to be more than just a challenging game. We want it to become a deep strategic experience that continues to grow alongside its players.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“6 months”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to steadily expand Mictla throughout Early Access with new content and new strategic possibilities.

Among our priorities is the addition of new cards, relics, familiars, and events that increase run variety and allow players to discover new combinations and playstyles.

We are also exploring the possibility of introducing new game modes, challenges, modifiers, and other systems that provide greater diversity and long-term replayability.

The combat system will continue to evolve throughout development. We will keep refining synergies, adjusting balance, and improving existing mechanics based on community feedback. In addition, we plan to introduce new patterns, strategies, and ways to interact with the board to further expand the game's tactical depth.

Our goal is to build an experience that always invites you to play one more run.

The full version is designed to offer a richer world, more content to discover, greater strategic possibilities, and a much more polished experience in both its mechanics and its story.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version of Mictla already includes the vast majority of the systems that make up the core game experience.

Players can currently enjoy:

• A complete combat system built around cards, patterns, and strategy.
• Card upgrades, shops, random events, and a forging system.
• Local multiplayer.
• A prestige system that progressively increases difficulty through unique modifiers.
• Special enemies, elite enemies, minibosses, and final bosses.
• Enemy abilities that directly interact with the board.
• A potion system.
• 2 deck archetypes with distinct strategic approaches.
• More than 70 cards and over 160 upgraded variants.
• 12 unique familiars.
• More than 40 different relics.

Mictla already offers a complete and fully playable experience. During Early Access, our focus will be on expanding the content, refining balance, improving existing systems, and introducing new mechanics that further enrich the experience.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to gradually increase the price as we add new content, cards, and mechanics. The final price will not exceed 50% above the initial price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“With each content update (every 2 weeks), surveys will be conducted.

We will continuously seek community feedback through news posts and notifications on the Steam page.”

About This Game

Deep within Mictlan, the realm of the dead, something has disturbed the balance.

A corruption born from the world of the living has spread throughout every corner of the underworld. Even the god who rules this domain has fallen under its influence. Spirits grow restless, ancient guardians have lost their way, and that which was meant to remain in harmony now stands on the brink of collapse.

Against this darkness, only one hope remains.

A small axolotl.

Embark on an adventure where every step takes you deeper into a world inspired by Mesoamerican mythology, filled with mysteries, dangers, and ancient entities. Travel through procedurally generated paths, uncover forgotten relics, face mighty guardians, and unravel the source of the corruption consuming Mictlan.

Mictla is a challenging puzzle roguelike deckbuilder where strategy is everything. Every battle tests your ability to create patterns, make the most of limited board space, and turn simple moves into devastating elemental combinations.

Throughout your journey, benevolent spirit companions will fight by your side. They may look adorable, but beneath their charming appearance lie powerful allies capable of completely changing the way you play.

Combine magical cards, relics, and familiars to create unique synergies. Experiment with multiple upgrade systems and discover strategies capable of turning an impossible situation into an unexpected victory.

And yes, I want to be honest with you...

Mictla is not trying to be an easy game.

It was designed for those who enjoy learning, adapting, and overcoming challenges that seem impossible at first. Every defeat is a lesson. Every victory is a triumph worth celebrating.

Play alone or alongside a friend.

If you enjoy a challenge, we invite you to descend ever deeper. The lower circles hide greater dangers, stronger enemies, and secrets reserved for those who refuse to give up.

The balance of the universe is fading, and Axolopochtli has already begun his journey.
