About This Game

The Missing Rune is a psychological horror simulation.
[“The Missing Rune” executable may also be designated as OBJ-SP-611. The following is an instructional guide.]

You will simulate a low level researcher in the O.B.J. foundation who has been given the task of banishing demonic entities back to where they came. As of now these entities are not fully manifested into the real world; they will appear to fade in and out of reality. However, if you look directly at the entity it will tunnel into your mind and possess you completing the manifestation process. The same is also true if you look away, however this time it will sneak into your body, turning you into more of a vessel than human. To keep the entity at bay you must keep it in your peripheral vision. To banish the entity you will be placed at a control panel with several rune labeled buttons, you will use a “Rune Operation Manual” to solve which runes to input to properly banish the entity. Dr. █████████, a head researcher and expert on this topic, will be your guide and assist you along the way. In order to secure the safety of you and our staff, if you get possessed, the foundation staff is instructed to neutralize you.

[Incident Report | 001]:

C. 1971, the O.B.J. foundation, an organization dedicated to studying unexplained, unearthed an ancient church yard called “The Church of the Missing Rune”. Taking the necessary precautions they constructed a facility around the consecrated grounds. Among the ruins were fragments of a book titled “The Grimoire of Runes”. Inside the pieced-together book were detailed instructions on how to begin the second coming.

The foundation has always renounced religion, a higher being was far too simple of an explanation for what they have seen. However there was something about this book, this Grimoire, that made them reconsider. Inside the book were writings from other foundation members who have never seen it before, or members that don’t even exist. Highlights and notes that were already on pages before the pages were found. They were professional, and annotated exactly in the way the O.B.J. instructs researchers to do so. There must be some reason.

According to the book, to begin revelation the researchers must cast a rune sequence. To do this they had to rotate the rune labeled pillars into alignment. Then they must chant the runes aloud. Upon doing so, a rift opened, from the blinding white glow was the sound of trumpets, but soon that sound shifted into bellowing screams and the rift turned to blood. Several non-human entities flowed through the portal. Researcher ████ ██████ was engulfed into the crimson vortex.

Following the accident, the foundation has so far captured all known entities that escaped, and now they are trying to send them back, and that is up to you, and the several predecessors that failed before.

[Field Notes]:

- Researcher names may be redacted to prevent Cognito-transmission. It's unknown if Cognito-transmission is possible or if possession is contagious. However the board recognizes it as a serious threat so it will be taken as such.
