What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access will allow me to share a playable version of the game built around procedurally generated maps and predefined skirmishes, and then continue developing it based on community feedback. Feedback about balance, pacing, AI behavior, UI readability, and which mechanics feel the most satisfying will be especially important.

I want the full version to be better polished thanks to real testing of different strategies and playstyles.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I currently plan for Ironholm: Reign of the Isles to remain in Early Access for around 3–6 months. The exact timeframe may change depending on player feedback, the scope of required improvements, and progress on the campaign, achievements, and new mechanics.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version will focus mainly on gameplay with procedurally generated maps and predefined skirmishes.

For the full version, I plan to add a campaign, Steam achievements, new mechanics, more content, better balance, further AI improvements, a more polished interface, and additional improvements to pacing and overall game flow.

The goal for the full version is to create a more complete strategy experience where skirmishes, procedural maps, and the campaign form a coherent whole.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version includes a procedural map generator, expansion between regions, building and upgrading structures, army production, unit movement between regions, capturing territories and castles, and battles against AI-controlled factions.

Some systems will continue to be developed and polished, especially balance, AI, the interface, pacing, and overall game readability.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. I plan for the Early Access price to be lower than the full release price. As the campaign, new mechanics, achievements, more content, and further polish are added to the game, the price will be increased for the full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Since Ironholm: Reign of the Isles is a solo indie project, player feedback will be a very important part of the game’s further development. I plan to collect feedback through Steam Discussions, community posts, and direct player reports.

I am especially interested in feedback about balance, AI behavior, map generation, predefined skirmishes, building usefulness, pacing, UI readability, and the overall strategic feel of the game.

This feedback will help shape development priorities for the campaign, new mechanics, and the full version of the game.”

About This Game

Ironholm: Reign of the Isles is a real-time strategy game about conquering medieval islands. Expand your kingdom, raise armies, and capture new regions while commanding entire forces instead of individual soldiers. Plan your expansion, reinforce key positions, and choose the right moment to strike.

You begin with a small headquarters and limited resources. Every region you capture opens up new opportunities for growth. Build an economy capable of supporting a growing army, construct new structures, upgrade existing buildings, and prepare new regions for further expansion. The larger your kingdom becomes, the more fronts and strategic positions demand your attention.

Instead of manually controlling every individual soldier, you command entire armies across a map divided into regions. Send troops to different fronts, reinforce threatened positions, capture enemy territory, and concentrate your forces where they can break through the enemy's defenses.

The sea is also part of your strategy. By building a lighthouse, you can call in reinforcements by ship and deploy fresh troops to selected coastal regions, opening up new strategic possibilities.

Key Features

  • Conquer procedurally generated medieval islands

  • Embark on Conquest and lead your kingdom through a path of varied challenges
