Why Early Access?

“Cats are hard to work with. How can I expect to get anything done quickly?

Starwhisker: Spectrum Survivors is my first game project, and Early Access provides an opportunity to develop it alongside the community.

The core gameplay systems are already implemented and playable, but balancing, polish, content expansion, and player feedback are all important parts of the game's development. Early Access allows players to help shape the experience, identify issues, suggest improvements, and influence future additions while the game continues to evolve.

As a solo developer working on the project alongside a full-time job, community feedback is invaluable in helping prioritize what makes the game the most fun it can be.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Development will continue for as long as necessary to reach the level of quality and content I am aiming for.

As this is my first game project and is being developed by a single developer alongside full-time work, I do not want to make promises about a specific release timeline. My goal is to steadily improve and expand the game throughout Early Access while maintaining transparency with the community about development progress. i am hoping to have a full release by Jun 18, 2027”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The current Early Access version contains the core gameplay experience, including all playable Starwhiskers, multiple maps, weapons, artifacts, progression systems, and the game's signature wavelength-based combat.

Throughout Early Access, I plan to continue expanding and refining the existing systems. Areas of focus may include:

• Additional weapons, artifacts, enemies, and bosses
• New maps and challenges
• Expanded progression and unlock systems
• Additional lore and world-building
• Improved balance and gameplay flow
• Visual, audio, and user interface polish
• Accessibility and quality-of-life improvements
• Continued refinement of existing mechanics based on player feedback

The goal is not only to add more content, but to improve the quality, depth, and overall experience of the systems already in place. The Final and completed version of the game will have no remaining AI placeholders and will be something ive worked with a community to create.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Starwhisker is currently in active Playtest / Early Access development.

The core bullet-heaven loop is playable: players can choose a Starwhisker, weapon, stage, difficulty, and modifiers, then build a run through upgrades, artifacts, light motes, bosses, elites, location events, and score chasing.

The game already includes multiple playable characters, weapons, stages, artifacts, progression systems, achievements, Steam Rich Presence hooks, local high scores, graphics/audio/control settings, and save/update protection.

Some content is still being balanced and expanded. Art, effects, UI polish, performance, boss behavior, Steam features, accessibility, and late-game pacing are still being improved regularly. Some visual assets are placeholders or in transition while the final art direction is being developed.

Player feedback is especially useful right now for balance, performance, clarity, bugs, controller/Steam Deck feel, difficulty, and what content feels most exciting to expand next.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I'm not planning on changing the price when we leave early access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback will play a major role in the ongoing development of Starwhisker.

I am actively building a Discord community and social media presence where players can share feedback, report bugs, discuss balance, suggest features, and participate in playtesting.

As a solo developer, community input helps identify what is working, what needs improvement, and which additions players would most like to see. Development priorities will be heavily influenced by player feedback throughout Early Access.

Whether you're reporting a bug, suggesting a new artifact, discussing balance, or simply sharing your experiences, your feedback helps shape the future of Starwhisker.

Starwhisker is a solo indie project. During early development, some placeholder assets and development materials were created with the assistance of AI tools to help prototype ideas quickly and focus resources on gameplay development.

As development continues, these assets are being progressively refined, replaced, or supplemented with original work created specifically for the game. The goal is to ensure Starwhisker develops its own distinct artistic identity while remaining transparent about the tools used during its creation.
