What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Not in yet: Book Two, controller support, a volume slider, key rebinding, other languages, Steam achievements, cloud saves and online play. Some screens still show small debug-style labels. Saves are local files and may change between updates.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect about 12 months in Early Access, but it may take more or less time depending on player feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to add more story beyond Book One, more pet species and rarities, and more places to explore on the farm and beyond. We also plan to add controller support, Steam features such as achievements and cloud saves, other languages, and online co-op. We’ll use player feedback to decide what comes first, and our plans may change.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Book One is playable from start to finish: twelve story chapters, four story fights, then free play on the farm. You can walk a farm town, hatch and upgrade pets, catch wild pets in the woods, fight turn-based battles (Attack or Guard), and keep your pets in the Barn and Kennel. The season board and Rival night are available while a season is running.

Not in this version yet: Book Two or later chapters, controller support, a volume slider, key rebinding, other languages, Steam achievements, cloud saves and online play. Rough edges: some cards still show small debug-style labels, story scenes stop you walking until you press Skip and Next or Leave, and wild pets wander off after a short time. Saves are local files and may change between updates. Windows 64-bit, English only.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to raise the price gradually as we add more content and features during Early Access. We’ll tell players in advance.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to read the Steam discussions and reviews and use player feedback to decide what to improve and add next. We’ll post update notes in the Steam Community hub as we fix things and add content.”

About This Game
A small pet-raising adventure on a quiet farm
Spectrends is a cosy pixel-art game about raising pets. You play Lemuel, who walks a farm town, meets the people who live there, and slowly learns the story behind the cracked blue cup, the torn map and the strange bell that came with the farm.
Walk the farm and find the story

Explore a hand-drawn farm town on foot. Click to walk, or use W A S D or the arrow keys.

Story beats happen where the people are. Walk up to Ruth by the house to begin. The text types out and is read aloud by a narrator.

Book One has twelve chapters. Four of them end in a story fight, and finishing the book opens free play on the farm.

Keep track of what you are doing in the quest log, and pin the quest you want to follow.

Hatch, catch and raise pets

Spend Kennel treats to hatch new pets, or upgrade the power of the ones you have.

Walk in the woods and wild pets turn up. Hold the mouse on one, send a pet to meet it, and win to bring it home to the barn.

Every pet has a power kit (guard, burst or tank) that changes how it fights.

Browse your pets in the Barn, look at pet families, watch two of your pets fight each other, and read the Lore desk.

Turn-based fights, no luck
Each fight is a simple choice every round: Attack or Guard. Damage, armor and blocking are fixed, so winning comes from picking the right pet and the right moment. Fights are gentle: a pet that loses is just out of steam.
A season to come back to
Season One is an eight-week season with a season board, weekly quests and a rival night. Rewards are Kennel treats and cosmetic titles, never anything you have to buy.
Features

Pixel-art pets drawn by hand, in a growing set of species and rarities

A walkable farm and town with a day and night look

A twelve-chapter story with a narrator

Turn-based fights with three pet kits

Automatic saving, fight speed 1x or 2x, and a mute option

Windows 64-bit, runs full screen at 1920x1080 (Alt+Enter for a window)

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Parts of this game were created with the help of generative AI tools, including the story text and the game code. All AI-assisted material was reviewed and edited by the developer. The narration is read by Windows’ built-in text-to-speech, and the pet art and sound effects are made by the game’s own code. No content is generated by AI while you play.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Spectrends is a gentle pixel-art pet game with no blood, gore, nudity or sexual content. Pet fights are turn-based, and a pet that loses is just “out of steam”. The story, told in text and read aloud by a narrator, deals quietly with grief and loss, including the death of a grandmother, a child who was neglected, and fear of dying. These themes are handled in words only, with no graphic depictions.
