What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The core gameplay and base content are complete, and the game is fully playable now. I chose Early Access so that, while I keep adding content, I can hear directly from players and use that feedback to tune values and balance. Compared with developing behind closed doors, this lets me catch design problems earlier and keeps future updates closer to how players actually experience the game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I plan to keep the game in Early Access for about one month, with some buffer, and move to full release by late December at the latest. If it takes longer than expected, I will announce the new schedule on the store page and in the community in advance rather than changing it at the last minute.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will differ from the Early Access version in three main areas:
· Values and balance: I will tune difficulty and progression curves based on Early Access feedback so that every stage offers an appropriate challenge.
· Pacing and content: I will rework sections that feel flat or land weakly, and add new content.
· Presentation and feel: I will improve onboarding, UI, and audio-visual polish.
These changes will roll out in batches with my updates.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current build is fully playable, the early-game experience is fairly complete, and all major systems are in place. During Early Access I will keep tuning values and balance and fixing known issues. Some content is still being added and polished, so balance changes or the occasional bug may appear during updates; every change will be documented in the patch notes.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game remains at its current price during Early Access. As new content and features are added, I plan to raise the price in stages, and the full version will cost more than the Early Access price. I will announce any price change on the store page and in the community in advance, so you can decide whether to pick it up before it happens.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I will keep up with feedback in the Steam community, reviews, and player groups, compile it into a list on a regular basis, and explain in my update announcements which suggestions I have adopted, which I am holding off on, and why. I will also share progress through devlogs, and if a major issue comes up, I will address it in the community right away.”

About This Game

Desolation has swallowed the land, and only a handful of city-states still hold out. As a Sandwalker, you leave the city-states, awaken the Elf Ancient Tree, and build oases to hold back the spread of desolation—but the Doomsday Sandstorm will come.

Oasis Gameplay: Turn-Based Survival & Deckbuilding

  • Water management. Planting, plant growth, and resisting desolation all consume water. If your water reaches zero, the oasis construction fails.
  • Day, night, and action points. Each day is divided into day and night. Planting and harvesting cost action points, and they cost more at night.
  • Cards and plants. Get plant cards through pick-one-of-three choices, and harvest mature plants to replenish your deck. Each card sets its growth time, water cost, greening value, wind resistance, and harvest count.
  • Greening and desolation. Mature plants provide greening value, which offsets desolation's erosion of the spring. Upgrading the spring expands the area you can plant.
  • Weather and sandstorms. Seven weather types affect plant growth and water use. During a sandstorm, sand walls sweep across the map row by row or column by column; wind resistance determines how much damage the spring takes.

World Map: Expansion, Buildings & Technology

  • Found new oases outward from the Elf Ancient Tree or from the influence range of existing oases.
  • Build botanical gardens, Balance Towers, obelisks, and water areas to gain cards, resources, and permanent bonuses.
  • Unlock permanent bonuses in the Tech Tree, including starting water, daily action points, resource warehouses, and the Ancient Tree Barrier.
  • At Ancient Tree level 3, plot events appear; at level 5, Water, Fire, Wind, and Earth element rifts appear. Source Trees can be built on rifts.

Doomsday Sandstorm: Countdown Across Runs & Reset

The days spent on each oasis are added to the Doomsday Sandstorm countdown. When it reaches zero, the storm erases every oasis outside the Ancient Tree's shelter, leaving only sheltered buildings and accumulated resources. Technology can extend the countdown limit. Upgrading a Source Tree to
its highest tier unlocks the Source Heart, making the surrounding 9×9 area immune to the storm.

Other Features

  • Animal recruitment: meet the conditions to recruit animals and gain bonuses for related plants. Animals consume water each day and leave if their conditions are no longer met.
  • Plant gallery: view each plant's stats, element type, and description.
  • Visuals and languages: pixel art style, with seven interface languages—Simplified Chinese, English, Japanese, French, German, Russian, and Spanish.
  • Saves: automatic save at the end of each day, with continue support.

Demo Content

The demo covers the core loop of the world map and oasis building, ending after you successfully found 4 oases. Demo saves are stored separately from the full version. The full version continues the loop and adds later technology, plot events, element rifts, and more.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Generative AI Disclosure

During the development of SandSea Ark, we utilized generative AI tools (such as Claude) to assist with:

1. Code writing and debugging: AI-assisted generation and optimization of GDScript code to improve development efficiency.
2. Data configuration: Assistance in maintaining game data tables and configuration files.
3. Documentation: Some technical documents and changelogs were generated with AI assistance.

The following content was NOT generated using AI:
- Game art assets, UI design, and scene layouts
- Core game design, mechanics, and balance tuning

This game does not contain live-generated AI content — all in-game content is pre-designed and hand-crafted. The game does not dynamically generate text, images, or audio during gameplay.
