What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Desert Echo is developed by a solo developer. Early Access lets me involve players early, gather feedback on balance, difficulty and content, and shape the game's direction based on real player experience.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I expect Early Access to last around 6–12 months, depending on community feedback and development progress. I'd rather take a bit longer than release an unfinished game.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will add a story campaign with a new map for each chapter, where your items and progress carry over between chapters. It will also bring additional enemy types, mobile turrets, allied drones, NPCs with their own activities and reactions, more weapons, and co-op multiplayer improvements. Balance, performance and overall polish will improve throughout Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version is a fully playable horde defense experience: survive unlimited waves increasingly difficult waves with a boss every 5th wave, fighting 8 enemy types (including flying and ranged enemies). You can use 15+ weapons, attachments, and build and upgrade 10 turret types: Gun, Minigun, Scatter, Sniper, Cannon, Mortar, Rocket, Flamer, Cryo and Tesla. The game includes an economy system, NPC vendors, dynamic weather, a tutorial, 4 difficulty levels (Easy to Insane) and online co-op for up to 4 players via Steam. The Early Access version currently includes one battle map, Home Camp. A full run on Medium takes around 4 hours, and the game is built for replayability across difficulties, turret builds and co-op. As with any Early Access game, you may encounter bugs and balance issues. I'm actively fixing them.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will increase as major content such as new maps and the story campaign is added. Buying during Early Access gets you the game at its lowest price, plus every future update at no extra cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I read the Steam discussions daily, and there is also a dedicated feedback website where you can report bugs and suggest features: desertecho.games. Player feedback on balance, difficulty and content directly shapes update priorities. I'll share a public roadmap, post regular dev updates and release patches on a regular basis.”

About This Game

YOU ARE NOT HUMAN. YOU NEVER WERE.

Echo is an artificial consciousness, endlessly recurring and endlessly rebuilt. When your chassis falls, the Core rebuilds you. When the Core falls, there is nothing left to come back to.

Core at night, ring of firing turrets, horde pouring from the Rift

THE ECHO CORE

The Echo Core is everything. It holds the Dimensional Rifts that are tearing reality apart, and it is the only thing that can rebuild you. Level it up to unlock new turret slots, repair it between waves, and never let it fall. Protect it or stop existing.

DIMENSIONAL DRIFT

A giant sphere floats above the desert floor, pulling a portal into existence. A purple light comes down, slowly and inevitably. Watch the timer. When the light reaches the sphere, the vortex opens and they pour through. You can't stop it. You can only be ready.

Rift opening: purple beam hits the sphere, first enemies spilling out at dusk

WHAT IS DESERT ECHO?

Desert Echo is a sci-fi horde defense shooter. You fight on foot in first or third person, build and upgrade a turret network around the Core, and hold the gates against swarms of hundreds. Every wave pays out, every credit matters, and one mistake can collapse the whole line.

FEATURES

Endless Wave Survival - Swarms grow in size and aggression every wave. Survive themed waves (swarms, air raids, armored sieges) and boss waves, then push into endless mode for the leaderboards. No checkpoints. No mercy.

Huge horde (500+) flooding the canyon toward the gate

Hundreds of Enemies on Screen - A high-performance swarm system floods the battlefield with hundreds of ground and flying enemies at once, with no compromise.

Turrets, Gates & Economy - Build turrets on strategic slots, upgrade them up to level 50, repair them mid-fight, and reinforce the gates that hold back the Rifts. Place explosive gas barrels on the kill paths. Every placement is a decision. Every barrel is a trap waiting to happen.

Arsenal & Attachments - Pistols, SMGs, assault and marksman rifles, shotguns, a grenade launcher, a minigun and melee weapons, each with several variants. Mount reflex, holographic, prism and LPVO optics, and find better gear in loot crates.

First & Third Person - Switch perspective at any time. Line up precise shots in first person, or pull back to third when the swarm closes in from every side.

Skill Trees & Progression - Level up Echo and spend skill points in the Engineer and Weapon Systems trees: cheaper builds, faster repairs, more salvage, harder-hitting rounds, faster reloads and steadier aim.

Co-op Multiplayer - Fight alongside friends in Steam-powered online co-op. Coordinate, cover, survive together, or fall apart trying.

Day, Night & Sandstorms - A full day/night cycle changes the battlefield. Walls of sand sweep across the canyon, cutting visibility and turning the fight into chaos. Survive the storm, and survive what comes with it.

Sandstorm: low visibility, and enemy silhouettes in the dust, affected bullets fly and damage.

The Camp & Echo's Story - Between waves, trade with camp vendors who keep their own daily schedules, store your loot in the Echo Vault, and uncover the fragmented truth behind your existence through environmental storytelling, NPC encounters and Echo's own inner monologue.

Story Campaign (in development) - A chapter-based campaign across new desert maps, where you carry your gear from one chapter to the next, is being built during Early Access.

The desert doesn't forgive hesitation. Neither do they.
