About This Game

We Pretend is a PS1-styled psychological horror game set in the fog choked coastal town of Zaoyamada Riku, a place shaped by old tradition, powerful families, and folklore that refuses to stay buried.

The Story of ‘We Pretend’

You play as Minufuri, a second-year student who arrives at a place between realities: the Shrouded Shack, a waystation for lost souls where an enigmatic Observer watches and offers doors made from memories you’ve pretened to forget. Each door leads into a distorted “memory” you must survive and relive.

Behind the static and low-poly corridors is something far more personal: a story of isolation, abuse, and the weight of silence, told through shifting environments, symbolic items, and emotions that become real enough to hurt you.

Key features

  • PS1-era presentation: fixed cameras, crunchy visuals, and oppressive sound design that turns every room change into a threat.

  • Memory door structure: return to the Shrouded Shack between levels, speak with the Observer, and choose which truth to face next.

  • Emotion as survival mechanics: collect “Elation” items, manifest emotions and memories that can help you… or make everything more dangerous.

  • Folklore laced worldbuilding: the town’s families, the Fox Ancestors myth, and the festival “Akagiri no Mamorisai” weave through secrets and optional discoveries.

  • Secrets and alternate paths: hidden masks, key items, and a deeper route that reveals what really happened and who was guiding you.
