Why Early Access?

“PlayIndex is a game I want to build alongside its players. The core trading experience is already here and fully playable, but a market game lives or dies by how its systems feel over many hours and how accurately prices reflect what players expect. Early Access lets me put PlayIndex in front of real players, watch how they trade, and use that feedback to refine the valuation formula, the market, and the overall experience.

I'm releasing in Early Access because I'm committed to continuing development on PlayIndex and want that work shaped by the community rather than done in isolation. During Early Access I plan to keep adding content and features including achievements and unlockables and to keep tuning the systems based on how people actually play. My goal for this period is to grow PlayIndex into the complete game I want it to be, and I intend to see it through to a full release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I expect PlayIndex to be in Early Access for roughly six months, though this may shift depending on community feedback and how development progresses.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I plan to keep expanding PlayIndex throughout development. One of my main goals is to grow the game from its current 2D trading interface into a fuller 3D environment for trading game stocks. I also plan to add a variety of achievements and unlockables, along with continued tuning of the market and the formula that determines each game's value.

These are directions I'm aiming for rather than firm commitments — as I gather feedback during Early Access, priorities may shift and some of these plans may change or evolve as the game grows.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“PlayIndex is fully playable today. The core trading loop is complete: you can browse a full market of real Steam games, each with a live share price derived from its actual concurrent player count and a simulated value built on that data. You can buy and sell shares (including fractional shares), build and track a portfolio, review your transaction history, and see how you rank against other players on the leaderboard.

Prices move in response to real player-count data, so the market shifts as games gain and lose players. Everything described in the "About This Game" section above is currently implemented please refer to that section for the full feature list. Early Access will focus on expanding content and features and refining the systems over time, not on completing missing core functionality.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I don't plan to raise the price when PlayIndex leaves Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback is a big part of how I want to develop PlayIndex. I'd love for players to share ideas for achievements and unlockables, and to speculate on which games will rise or fall. Watching how the community reads the market will directly help me tune the formula that determines each game's value. I plan to gather this feedback through the Steam Community Hub and use it to guide what gets built next.”
