What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Wuxia Life is no longer just a concept demo. The current 0.9-series version already includes a playable core loop: players can begin in Luzhou Village, investigate the truth behind their father’s death and their own origins, join martial sects, recruit companions, and experience Yingzhou through ATB combat, 6 active skill slots, pets, mounts, bounties, escort routes, world encounters, dungeons, and multiple endings.

However, the part that needs the most refinement is not simply whether these features exist. It is whether the journey through Yingzhou feels meaningful enough.

Before reaching version 1.0, I want direct feedback from players on combat pacing, sect and skill balance, quest flow, map guidance, bond events, the emotional pacing of the father storyline, the Blacktide Gang, the main Yingzhou arc, the frequency of inner demon events, the Heavenly Storyteller, and whether player choices truly leave echoes in the jianghu.

As an independent developer, player feedback will directly shape the direction of the full release. Early Access is not simply about selling the game earlier. It is a way for players to step into Yingzhou and help make this jianghu clearer, stronger, and more memorable.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The current plan is for Wuxia Life to remain in Early Access for approximately 6 to 12 months.

My current goal is to release version 1.0 in the middle of 2027, but the actual schedule may change depending on player feedback, content polish, balance adjustments, and quality requirements.

If the main story, combat balance, quest flow, or content density still need more time, I would rather extend Early Access than rush the game into a full release before it is ready.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The goal of version 1.0 is to build on the current 0.9-series version and make the main story, system feedback, content density, and overall stability more complete.

Planned areas of focus include:

* Refining the emotional pacing of the father storyline, the Blacktide Gang, and Yingzhou’s main arc.
* Adding more bond events, sect promotion events, side quests, and ending echoes.
* Expanding systems related to “the jianghu remembers you,” such as rumors, one-time events, rival responses, and consequences of player choices.
* Continuing to adjust ATB combat pacing, sect balance, skill cooldowns, pets, and mount values.
* Improving UI, map guidance, quest hints, tutorial flow, and mid-to-late-game pacing.
* Continuing to polish ink-wash inspired UI, maps, scenes, and presentation assets.
* Evaluating adjustable difficulty and assist-mode options so story-focused players can experience the main storyline more smoothly.
* Verifying and improving Steam Achievements and Steam Cloud integration.

After the full release, I will also evaluate the possibility of Steam Workshop or other player-created content support. However, these are long-term considerations, and I do not want to promise specific features or release dates before they are realistic.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current 0.9-series version already includes the main playable loop. Players can experience story progression, martial sect growth, party building, combat, dungeons, jianghu events, and multiple ending collection.

Current major content includes:

* Main story: Starting from Luzhou Village and moving into the roads, Lujin Port, and other regions of Yingzhou. The main arc focuses on the human martial world, the truth behind the protagonist’s father, and the shadow of the Blacktide Gang.
* ATB combat: Speed affects action timing, with support for battle speed controls and auto-battle.
* 6 active skill slots: Skills can be arranged around cooldowns, weapon requirements, equipment affixes, and party roles.
* 3D battle scenes: Character positioning, skill effects, damage feedback, and battle pacing.
* Five martial sects: Qingyun Sect, Iron Lion Hall, Medicine King Valley, Xuanwu Pavilion, and Wanderer’s Gate, each with martial paths, initiation events, missions, and promotion events.
* Five Inner Voices and inner demons: Killing Intent, Compassion, Pride, Dao Heart, and Guile influence the protagonist’s inner state during choices. Accumulated inner demons may trigger dangerous breakdown events.
* Heavenly Storyteller: Three narrative rhythms — the righteous path, the hidden path, and the chaotic path — influence journey events, jianghu pressure, and some clue progression.
* Party and progression systems: The protagonist, recruitable companions, bond characters, pets, mounts, equipment, titles, and martial art fragments.
* Jianghu memory and rumors: Some player actions leave traces in characters, passerby rumors, and event echoes.
* One-time events: Certain key scenes happen only once, such as saving someone on a rainy night, receiving a master’s entrusted blade, being searched for by a childhood friend, or making a retirement choice.
* Jianghu activities: Escort routes, bounties, martial matchmaking, world encounters, sect tournaments, martial arts tournaments, and arena ranks.
* Progression and collection: Forging, alchemy, crafting, enhancement, equipment affixes, collection logs, in-game achievements, and multiple endings.
* Save safety: Multiple character slots, manual saves, auto-saves, emergency backups, and save package export / import.

Content still being refined includes:

* Bug fixing, balance adjustments, and UI details.
* Quest flow, map guidance, side quest density, and mid-to-late-game pacing.
* The emotional pacing of the father storyline, the Blacktide Gang, and Yingzhou’s main arc.
* More bond events, sect events, secret realm content, and ending echoes.
* Practical verification and improvement of Steam Achievements and Steam Cloud integration.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“During Early Access, Wuxia Life will be offered at a more accessible price as thanks to early players who are willing to support the game while it is still being developed.

As the content expands, systems become more stable, and the main story and bond events become more complete, I plan to gradually adjust the price when the game gets closer to version 1.0.

Players who purchase the game during Early Access will continue to receive updates to the full version without needing to purchase the base game again when it leaves Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I plan to communicate with players mainly through the Steam Community discussions, Steam announcements, and development logs.

Players can take part in development by:

* Reporting bugs, giving suggestions, or sharing their jianghu experiences in the Steam discussions.
* Following Steam announcements for version updates, known issues, and future adjustment plans.
* Giving feedback on combat pacing, sect balance, quest flow, bond events, inner demon triggers, and the Heavenly Storyteller.
* Sharing opinions before and after major updates.
* Participating in surveys or polls when key system adjustments need broader feedback.

I am an independent developer, so there are limits to what I can do at once, but I will read player reports and suggestions carefully. For Wuxia Life, Early Access is not about throwing an unfinished game at players. It is about letting players help this version of Yingzhou become better, clearer, and more alive.”

About This Game

You Never Truly Knew Your Father

Wuxia Life is a single-player wuxia RPG set on the fictional island of Yingzhou.

You begin in Luzhou Village, investigating your father’s death and the truth of your origins. The clues he left behind lead you into sect rivalries, rumors across the jianghu, the shadow of the Blacktide Gang, and a Yingzhou slowly falling out of balance.

Some people refuse to speak. Some leave only half a sentence. Others hide the truth in old letters, torn manuals, and drunken rumors. You are not only hunting for an enemy — you are trying to understand the path your father once walked, and why Yingzhou is being pulled into the Blacktide.

On this journey, you will join martial sects, befriend companions, build bonds, capture pets, forge equipment, and decide again and again who you want to become amid the pull of Killing Intent, Compassion, Pride, Dao Heart, and Guile.

Five Inner Voices, Inner Demons, and the Heavenly Storyteller

Your choices do not simply change a morality score. They make certain voices within you grow louder.

  • Killing Intent: Blood must answer blood. No more waiting.

  • Compassion: Even in pain, do not let hatred live your life for you.

  • Pride: Be no one’s shadow, and let no bloodline define you.

  • Dao Heart: Truth must be revealed, but justice needs a line it will not cross.

  • Guile: Read the board first, then decide when to strike.

As your decisions accumulate, inner demons may build and trigger dangerous breakdown events under pressure. Meanwhile, the Heavenly Storyteller drives events and clues through three narrative rhythms: the righteous path, the hidden path, and the chaotic path.

The same journey through the jianghu can leave very different echoes depending on what you choose.

ATB Combat and 6-Slot Skill Builds

Combat follows an ATB rhythm, where speed affects the order of actions. You can manually control each move, or enable auto-battle for low-pressure fights and material farming.

  • 6 active skill slots: Build around cooldowns, weapon requirements, equipment affixes, and party roles.

  • Speed controls: Switch between 1x / 2x / 4x / 8x battle speed.

  • 3D battlefields: Character positioning, skill effects, impact feedback, and combat pacing.

  • Dungeon challenges: Waves, bosses, drops, staged encounters, and clear rewards.

Five Martial Sects

Yingzhou’s jianghu features five martial sects you can join. Each sect has its own initiation, martial arts path, missions, and promotion events.

  • Qingyun Sect: Uphold the Dao with the sword, where sword heart and sacrifice matter.

  • Iron Lion Hall: Temper bone and will through fist and blade, where loyalty and responsibility are tested.

  • Medicine King Valley: Medicine and poison share the same root; saving lives and punishing evil both come at a cost.

  • Xuanwu Pavilion: Guard, endure, and counterattack while holding the line.

  • Wanderer’s Gate: Information, hidden weapons, and the open road — freedom matters, but friends are not for sale.

Sects are not just skill shops. As you advance, you may have to decide whether to publicly interrogate a traitor, how to deal with a poor porter who made a grave mistake, whether to open the valley to a plague-stricken village, whether to shelter refugees, and which secrets should never be sold.

Companions, Bonds, Pets, and Mounts

You do not have to walk Yingzhou alone.

  • Protagonist: Martial sect techniques, internal arts, lightness skills, equipment, titles, and milestones.

  • Companions: Recruited through quests, each filling different combat roles.

  • Bond characters: Affection events, exclusive skills, and combo techniques.

  • Pets: Capture, raise, deploy, and gain skills or battle bonuses.

  • Mounts: Travel speed, terrain suitability, racing, and selected combat abilities.

Build your party around the protagonist, then combine companions, bond characters, pets, mounts, martial arts, equipment, and titles to face the main story, secret realms, arena battles, and jianghu events in your own way.

The Jianghu Remembers You

Yingzhou is not a map that simply waits for quests to be accepted.

What you say, whom you spare, whom you kill, and which lines you cross may all leave traces in the world.

  • A rival from a martial arts tournament may remember your choices.

  • A childhood friend may leave you a protective charm.

  • Your master may entrust you with an old sword at a critical moment.

  • Passersby may talk about local rumors, whispers, and things you recently did.

  • Wanted criminals have their own obsessions, lines before and after battle, and consequences if spared or killed.

These systems are not here just to add more items to a feature list. Their goal is to make you feel that Yingzhou slowly remembers what you have done.

A Playable Jianghu Loop

The current version includes multiple lines of progression that can be pursued in parallel:

  • Main story, side quests, bond quests, daily tasks, and sect mission chains.

  • Sect training, sect tournaments, martial arts tournaments, and arena ranks.

  • Martial matchmaking events, wanted bounties, escort routes, and world encounters.

  • Forging, alchemy, crafting, enhancement, collection logs, in-game achievements, and ending collection.

  • Martial art fragments, moments of insight, secret realms, dungeons, boss challenges, and late-game trials.

You can focus on following the clues your father left behind, or first strengthen your party, sect progression, pets, equipment, and resource routes before returning to face the Blacktide of Yingzhou.
