In Onward!, victory isn't about reflexes or quick reaction times. You make the most important decisions before the battle even begins - when building your army, planning synergies, and positioning units on the board. A good strategy is paramount. Even changing the position of one unit by a single square can decide the outcome of the battle.

Once the battle begins, you can see your plan play out. Watch as units execute your strategy, activate abilities, and utilize synergies in automatic battles. Every victory is the result of prior decisions, not quick reactions during combat.

BUILD AN ARMY THAT WORKS THROUGH SYNERGY

Each run is procedurally generated, each playthrough unique. Combination of enemies, events, shops, rewards, units and artifacts you will find, special encounters - different every time - is encouraging you to constantly adapt and use what you find to your advantage.

During the game, you have to decide your fate depending on what the run brings. You continually build your team, deciding which playstyle is most effective based on what fate has in store for you. Each board brings more opportunities that you must utilize strategically.

There is no single best build, but if you make good choices during a run you can end up with an overpowered one!

UNITS AND THEIR PLACEMENT ARE THE KEY TO THE VICTORY

The arrangement of units on the board is the most crucial element of the game. Some character classes become stronger when standing next to specific allies or structures. Others start out weak but grow over time. Some require sufficient distance, or open space to activate their abilities. Part of them may look average at first, but they start to shine when they boost half your army when placed just right.

MORE THAN 100 UNITS AND 50 ARTIFACTS TO DISCOVER AND COLLECT

During the game, you will unlock a vast number of units, artifacts, and potions, allowing you to create increasingly complex strategies in subsequent playthroughs.

New units bring ever more intricate abilities. While artifacts can completely change the way your army operates - enhancing specific playstyles, modifying units, or opening up entirely new possibilities for building synergies.

Some combinations are obvious. The initial stages of the game may seem simple, but as you delve deeper into the world of Onward!, you'll notice that diverse unit combinations create rich gameplay. Other synergies will only become apparent after hours of experimentation. Adapting to a given run and understanding the possibilities of new unlocks is crucial.

COMMANDERS CHANGES THE PLAYSTYLE

Each Commander has its own starting stats, a unique appearance and personalized board that changes how you approach the game. Choose a Commander that fits your preferred playstyle or challenge yourself with newly unlocked ones. Each Commander offers a different way to plan battles and build synergies. This means that even the same unit set can perform completely differently depending on the chosen hero.

During your run, you earn Fame. With each new Fame level, your Commander gains more slots for units on the battlefield, you will also find more and more advanced units and artifacts that will help you win even the toughest battles.

EVERY GAME UNLOCKS NEW POSSIBILITIES

Between runs, you unlock new Commanders, additional units, artifacts, potions and new adventures (more difficult runs).

At first, your collection may not seem impressive. However, with each victory, each obtained achievement, the pool of units, artifacts and even Commanders opens up. All of them are available for you to find in the next run, to be used in your next build, allowing you to create more and more elaborate and powerful synergies!
