Controls

Play with only a mouse, only a keyboard, or both. A controller is optional (partial controller support). The in-game keyboard lets mouse users enter written answers using Latin, accented Latin and Cyrillic characters.

ASANA Visual Novel is a sci-fi dark comedy visual novel where your choices shape your character, your stats shape your options, and N.E.K.O., the ship's godlike AI, currently in cat form, permanently in judgment mode, watches everything and is not impressed.

You are Captain Asana. Planets keep exploding in your rearview mirror, heavily armed Cat-Ptain Paradox is getting too close too fast, and nobody will tell you why. Build your character. Make your choices. Try not to make things worse.

Things will go wrong. They always do. Whether you fix them, survive them, or fail spectacularly depends on you. And yes, you can let the world rot if that's who you are.

And in selected story scenes, you can talk to N.E.K.O. in your own words. AI generates his replies within the scene and the character's role. Conversations and challenges have rules and limits. He has opinions. You will not enjoy all of them.

Online features and offline play

Live AI conversations and challenges require Internet, as does generating new speech. You can turn online AI off. When online services are unavailable or disabled, the story continues with text and built-in offline responses.

Online features include up to 200 AI requests to use across chats and minigames, plus 50 English voice-generation requests per installation. These allowances are shared across playthroughs. When a limit is reached, the game remains playable using text and built-in offline alternatives. Prerecorded voices and already-generated cached audio remain available.

Generative AI assisted the creation of background image assets, music, some localization and coding during development. The developer directs the story, characters and final creative decisions. During play, optional online features use Anthropic Claude to generate character dialogue and evaluate player-written responses in story challenges.
