What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The game's large world is not generated but made by hand, so it takes time to finish all the planned content. Early Access allows players to play and support the game while it grows with weekly updates. Variable paths in a persistent world bring up difficult design decisions. Early Access makes player ideas and feedback a vital resource for the game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I will release the game from Early Access in about twelve months, which gives me enough time to implement the systems, locations, encounters, and regions needed for it to be a complete game from start to finish.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“With the weekly updates during Early Access I plan to gradually introduce meetable characters, cross-run mysteries, three new regions with unique biomes, dungeons, monsters and locations, and many improvements to how the game plays. The release version is then planned to cap the Early Access period with a challenging and satisfying conclusion to the hero's journey.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“All foundational systems are implemented. Runs take place in one region of the world. After ten hours of play you should have encountered most of the locations in the region. The game is pretty well tested but expect the occasional bug.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I plan to gradually raise the price as substantial content and features make their way into the game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Many great suggestions by members of the game's community have made their way into the game! To share your own thoughts and ideas, visit the social or forum links in the sidebar.”

About This Game

"Beyond the great plains and mountains, deep inside the forbidden lands, lies a dormant kingdom, untouched in centuries. Those who enter the vast ranges of its terrible curse, will forever drift along its unknowable, shifting paths. Running from horrible creatures, hiding in crumbling ruins, watching for lights on the mountain during starry nights. A long, solemn journey nears its end as you row the small boat across the clear lake, towards the barrier."

Introduction

Step into a cursed land haunted by the past and reach its ancient center to complete your journey through the forbidden lands. Immerse yourself in this atmospheric, turn-based roguelike and become the first to ever return from the barrier.

Features

  • Turn-Based Heart Beat: This is a tense, turn-based experience where one rash step can invite disaster. Survey each situation, and carefully think about your next step. When you die, the game is over.

  • A New Adventure: Each run starts at one of over 500 locations in the world from where you have to make your way along a winding, unpredictable path that leads you through forests, ruins, and dungeons.

  • The Forbidden Land: Explore dark forests, sunken temples, and spider-infested crypts in a world created entirely by hand using the engine's built-in editor.

  • Ebbs and Flows: Resources are vital to your survival. Venture into zombie-filled villages, flooded sewers and haunting temple-ruins for precious gear, supplies and food to survive.

  • Fight To Survive: Wild animals and evil monsters would like you as their next meal. To overcome the dangers of this world in turn-based combat, you have to weigh all options and tools at your disposal.

  • A Moody Place: Get transported into the game's world by its soundscapes and unique graphics, brought to life by the game's custom 3D engine.
