About This Game

Build a tavern worth coming back to

Start with a humble roadside plot and turn it into a warm, thriving medieval tavern, alone or together with up to three friends online.

Raise the walls, shape the rooms, furnish every corner, cook meals by hand, brew and age your own drinks, welcome travelers through the door, and slowly transform a modest inn into the beating heart of the valley.

Every table you place, every dish you serve, and every room you build leaves its mark on the tavern.

And over time, so do the people who visit it.

Build the tavern your way

Your tavern begins small.

From there, you decide what it becomes.

Draw out rooms and extensions, shape the building around your plot, create kitchens, dining halls, brewing spaces, storage rooms, guest areas, and quiet corners by the fire.

HearthFall's building tools let you create both practical layouts and taverns with their own personality.

Rectangular Building

Quickly create clean rooms, floors, corridors, kitchens, dining halls, and larger extensions.

Circular Building

Create rounded rooms, curved walls, cosy alcoves, circular dining spaces, and more unusual handcrafted layouts.

Then fill the tavern with seating, cooking stations, brewing equipment, decorations, games, lighting, storage, and dozens of pieces of furniture.

Your first tavern may be little more than four walls and a hearth.

It doesn't have to stay that way.

Cook every dish by hand

Cooking in HearthFall is something you physically do.

Prepare ingredients at your workstations, chop vegetables, mix ingredients, roll dough, stir dishes, tend meals as they cook, and serve the finished food directly to your guests.

Different recipes ask for different ingredients and preparation steps, turning the kitchen into a place you gradually learn and improve rather than a menu you simply click through.

As your tavern grows, so does your kitchen.

Discover new recipes, improve your equipment, work more efficiently, and build a menu that feels like your own.

Brew, age, and pour your own drinks

Fill barrels with ingredients and experiment with different combinations to create drinks for your tavern.

A fresh batch can be served immediately, but patient innkeepers can leave their best drinks to age and improve over several days.

Build up your cellar, prepare tomorrow's stock, keep your taps filled, and decide which barrels are worth opening now, and which deserve another night to mature.

Welcome travelers and familiar faces

The people who walk through your doors can become familiar faces.

Guests visit your tavern, order food and drink, spend time by the hearth, and return over multiple days.

As your tavern becomes better known, familiar faces begin to feel like part of the place.

Learn what your regulars enjoy, welcome them back night after night, and watch an empty roadside building slowly become somewhere people genuinely belong.

Run the tavern together

Play HearthFall solo or invite up to three friends online.

Build the tavern together, prepare food, pour drinks, serve customers, gather supplies, decorate rooms, and decide how your shared home should grow.

There are no fixed classes.

One player might spend the afternoon preparing meals while another works behind the bar. Someone else may expand the dining room, tend to supplies, or prepare the tavern for the next day.

Everyone contributes to the same tavern, while still being free to find the jobs they enjoy doing most.

Make the tavern your own

A better tavern isn't only a bigger tavern.

A better tavern isn't only a bigger tavern.

Change the floors. Redesign rooms. Move the kitchen. Create a cosy corner around the hearth. Build a larger bar. Add more seating.

As HearthFall progresses, the little roadside inn you started with gradually becomes richer, warmer, busier and unmistakably yours.

Gather what your tavern needs

The world beyond your front door provides resources and ingredients that help the tavern grow.

Gather materials, bring supplies home, and turn what you find into useful improvements for the inn.

The important part is always what happens when you return:

a new meal you can prepare,

a new piece of furniture you can place,

a new upgrade you can afford,

or another part of the tavern you can finally build.

Grow from a roadside inn into a landmark

HearthFall is built around gradual progress.

Earn money from service.

Improve your tavern.

Unlock new recipes and equipment.

Expand the building.

Create better rooms.

Attract more visitors.

Discover new possibilities.

Then wake up the next morning with another reason to keep going.

What begins as a modest roadside tavern can eventually become one of the most welcoming places in the valley.

The journey between those two points is yours.
