What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“It's a multiplayer game, so the more players the better! Our Kickstarter backers got the first crack at Hex Gambit in the alpha phase. Now the unit balance and our league metagame are both ready for more players to scrutinize. Fresh perspectives will help inform our fine-tuning of the game's balance and online experience.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Four months or so is our target to get the remaining features implemented, user feedback integrated, and bugs fixed.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of the game will have 2 more minion characters, giving you 21 combinations for your team loadout. We'll also be adding a single-player mode, player profiles to record your accomplishments, local multiplayer support, and a more robust tutorial system.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is fully playable in 1-on-1 or 2-on-2 online multiplayer, both ranked and unranked. Our ranked mode features a community wide turf war with trophies you can earn for your profile. All matches reward you with EXP, which will be applied to any future unlockables we tie to the leveling system.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Early Access users get 10% off the game's launch price. Thanks for supporting our team while we work!”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Between the Steam discussion group, discord, and our own community forums, there are plenty of ways to let us know what features or fixes you want to see in Hex Gambit! The more users we see requesting the same feature, the more likely we are to prioritize it. Throughout the alpha phase, we've been debating and implementing balance changes and bug fixes based on player feedback, and we plan to continue that tradition through the rest of development.”

Calm down! The Pacifist is here.

Big day for Hex Gambit Early Access: all seven launch minions are live! With the addition of the Pacifist today, you now have 21 different combinations of minions to use on your team, times six unlockable Captain's Ultimates to choose from. You can carefully customize your tactics to taste, or go nuts and randomize your loadout every match.

Like the Sniper before her, our Pacifist is launching sans sound effects but fully functional. Infectious love and generosity are her specialties! Use her to nullify your threats and to block late game pillar taps.
  • Pacify: Don't like what's headed your way? Pacify it to disable tapping and specials for 1 turn. But be warned: this move's cooldown is a window for revenge.
  • Donate: At 8HP, the Pacifist is Hex Gambit's most durable unit. Lucky for her teammates, she's also our most generous! She can give up to 3HP per turn to injured comrades.
  • Pillar Guard (Need 7 VP): Stand next to either friendly pillar to make it untappable.
Another big change this update: a better Motivator! Shout is now free with a 1 turn cooldown, and Intimidate now strips buffs from its targets. That means it removes shields and overwrites Inspire. Inspiration will resume once the Intimidate clears, but those shields are gone for good. Enjoy!

  • New Unit: The Pacifist! A master of not fighting.
  • Sniper's audio has been added
  • Sniper HP reduced to 3 (from 4)
  • The Sniper's Tapping Round no longer counts as his pillar tap for the turn. You can do both.
  • Motivator Intimidate buffed: same as before, but now also strips any buffs on the target.
  • Motivator's Shout now costs 0 AP, with a 1 turn cooldown
  • Sniper's longshot is now blocked by blockades as intended
  • Sniper's longshot now works properly when hypnotized by Lolli

Adapt and Conquer

In a world called Agon, the sharpest strategic minds command squads of expendable automatons in an explosive arena sport called Hex Gambit.

Hex Gambit is a fresh take on turn-based strategy! From the crowdsurfing mechanic you use to get around the board to the versatility of our minions’ moves, the game is designed to empower creativity at every turn. Battles only take around 15 minutes for experienced players. Put your wits to the test in the Apex Cup, a competitive league that divides our entire community into three factions for a massive territory control metagame.

Before each match, you’ll customize a squad of 5 minion classes and 1 captain. Each captain packs a unique Ultimate that can help you out of a tough situation, and each minion possesses 3 unique special moves. There will be 7 minions to choose from on launch day for 21 team combinations, times 6 captains.

A quick setup phase cuts right to the action: arrange some starter minions however you like on your side of the map. Victory Points are awarded for minion kills, and for each time you can “tap” a crystal pillar on the hostile side of the map. First to 10VP wins.

Keep It Moving

Our checkers-inspired movement mechanic, called crowdsurfing, makes getting around the board a fun puzzle in and of itself. Minions can bounce off the head of any neighboring unit to land on the opposite side, and that’s chainable if a bunch of characters are standing in a line. What would be a traffic jam in most TBS games is a wealth of options in Hex Gambit.

Territory Control

The heart of Hex Gambit is our competitive league play, the Apex Cup. Each season, all of Hex Gambit’s players choose a faction and face off in a community-wide turf war. Points you earn in league matches, win or lose, help your team seize territory on the Summit. Trophies are awarded to all members of the winning faction each season, and to the top performers on each team.
