What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“It's a multiplayer game, so the more players the better! Our Kickstarter backers got the first crack at Hex Gambit in the alpha phase. Now the unit balance and our league metagame are both ready for more players to scrutinize. Fresh perspectives will help inform our fine-tuning of the game's balance and online experience.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Four months or so is our target to get the remaining features implemented, user feedback integrated, and bugs fixed.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of the game will have 2 more minion characters, giving you 21 combinations for your team loadout. We'll also be adding a single-player mode, player profiles to record your accomplishments, local multiplayer support, and a more robust tutorial system.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is fully playable in 1-on-1 or 2-on-2 online multiplayer, both ranked and unranked. Our ranked mode features a community wide turf war with trophies you can earn for your profile. All matches reward you with EXP, which will be applied to any future unlockables we tie to the leveling system.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Early Access users get 10% off the game's launch price. Thanks for supporting our team while we work!”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Between the Steam discussion group, discord, and our own community forums, there are plenty of ways to let us know what features or fixes you want to see in Hex Gambit! The more users we see requesting the same feature, the more likely we are to prioritize it. Throughout the alpha phase, we've been debating and implementing balance changes and bug fixes based on player feedback, and we plan to continue that tradition through the rest of development.”

Blitz Royale is Live!

For those of you who've wished for a way to play Hex Gambit while waiting for your turns to come back, the Blitz Royale has arrived! This single player survival challenge was devised by Abbacus himself, and consists of 6 battles using one, persistent army.

You'll choose a loadout like usual and receive a certain number of reinforcements per unit, doled out to you randomly before each battle in the blitz. Every minion you lose is gone for good, so tread carefully! In all, you'll get a little more than 2 standard matches' worth of minions to survive. Here's a rundown of our three difficulties:

Easy: You’ll get an extra AP every turn, and start each match with a full Captain charge. You'll benefit from a bonus that helps you recharge your Captain’s Ult faster, and your opponents won't trigger their Ults as often.

Normal: You’ll get the same AP as your opponents, and start each match with an empty Captain’s charge. You'll also receive a bonus charge to help you fill your Captain’s Ult faster.

Hard: Your enemy gets an extra AP each turn, and will trigger their Captain’s Ult more frequently. You gain no special charge bonuses for your Captain.

Please send your bug reports and feedback for the new mode to contact@onemanleft.com.

I've updated our Early Access Manual with all the current minion stats and this Blitz Royale info. Our next feature will be an interactive tutorial, so you won't have to dig through that pdf much longer!

Get Competitive. Be Creative.

Hex Gambit is a short form, competitive strategy game that lets players surprise each other in plain sight. It's designed to be as fun to watch as it is to play. Characters jump across the board like checkers pieces, and their moves compliment each other for bold, game-changing plays. Your strongest abilities unlock automatically as your score increases, so each match is a race to unleash a game-winning gambit. Battles take around 15 minutes for experienced players.

Jump Over Anyone

Our checkers-inspired movement mechanic, called crowdsurfing, makes getting around the board a fun puzzle in and of itself. Bounce over the head of any neighboring unit to land on the opposite side, and that’s chainable if a bunch of characters are standing in a line. What would be a traffic jam in most TBS games is a wealth of options in Hex Gambit.

Choose Your Squad

Before each match, you’ll select a squad of 5 minion classes and a captain, who provides a unique Ultimate to help you out of tough situations. There are 7 diverse minion classes to choose from: Soldier, Sniper, Brute, Runner, Pacifist, Defender, and Motivator. That's 21 different team combinations, times 6 captains.

Easy to Learn, Difficult to Master

A quick setup phase skips right to the good stuff: arrange some starter minions however you like on your side of the map. Victory Points are awarded for minion kills, and for each time you can “tap” a crystal pillar on the hostile side of the map. First to 10VP wins.

Single-Player Survival Challenge

Players looking for some practice can take on a single player gauntlet called the Blitz Royale. It has three difficulties to choose from. Your minion army is persistent across six grueling battles, with reinforcements shuffled and doled out randomly before each match. Every minion you lose is gone for good!

League Play - A Community Turf War

The heart of Hex Gambit is our competitive league play, the Apex Cup. Each month, all of our players choose a faction and face off in a massive war for control of the Summit. Victory Points you earn in league matches, win or lose, help your team seize territory. Trophies are awarded to all members of the winning faction each season, and to the top performers on each team.
