What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The Salasasa platform is built upon an open-source project. Due to the project's inherent community-driven nature and the voluntary contributions of its developers, the platform's features will inevitably be developed and improved gradually. We have a long-term vision (to include all Mahjong rules and provide custom rule options) and will continue to work persistently toward this goal. Adopting Early Access is intended to accurately describe the nature of the project, to remind players that they may encounter some potential issues while using the platform, and to encourage them to participate in the development process or decision-making.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Given the significant gap between our current progress and our long-term vision, this phase is expected to last for quite some time. It is a long and arduous journey to evolve from supporting only basic features—such as matches, game records, spectating, and matchmaking, along with a handful of rules—to our ultimate goal of cataloging hundreds of distinct variations. Nevertheless, the development team remains fully committed. We plan to conclude the Early Access period in 2030, by which time we aim to have progressed sufficiently to release a comprehensive mid-term version.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The planned full version means we will have included at least two to three hundred Mahjong rules from different regions and with various creative concepts, and the custom rule system will be sufficiently well-developed. On this foundation, we may further organize new Mahjong rule creative competitions or introduce innovations that go beyond traditional Mahjong itself. Many people have designed very interesting Mahjong rules—for example, variants like Rainbow Mahjong that completely depart from the standard Mahjong tile set—and we will strive to implement them. Additionally, in our long-term plans, we also intend to include gesture games, poker, chess-related content, and other cross-genre casual games.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“In the Early Access version, we can guarantee that basic features for standard rules—such as custom rooms for Chinese Standard Mahjong (MCR) , spectating, game records, matchmaking, etc.—function normally. The platform has also included Qing Que, Classical Mahjong, and some sub-rules based on major rule sets.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The platform currently has no monetization or charging plans.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The project’s developers themselves originate from the community—we are mainly composed of Mahjong enthusiasts and fans who love discussing and creating rules. We will regularly organize activities in QQ groups, Discord, and other communities, including but not limited to creative rule contests, National Standard or other rule tournaments, and discussions about the platform’s future direction. You can join our Discord or QQ groups through the relevant links to participate in daily discussions and development.”
