What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Virtual Reality is a new medium, and honestly, we are still discovering what works and what doesn't. We believe the best VR experiences are the ones that are impossible in reality, but if that's true, then what should these new experiences be like? We think the best path to developing amazing VR experiences is constant testing and feedback from users. And lots of experimentation! After all, our goal is to create an entirely new way of experiencing music.

So if you create music, if you build visuals, or if you are an avid fan of music, we need you.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan on launching the full product by the end of 2017.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Over the course of Early Access, we will develop platform features that will provide new types of tools for artists to create shows with and new ways for fans to experience those shows.

We'll know it's ready for release when we have enough content on the platform and feel 100% confident with the quality of the experience.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Right now we have some basic social features, a little bit of content, and we will be throwing at least one show per week.

We’ll be expanding the content on the platform as well as iterating on the social experience of throwing your own shows.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“TheWaveVR is a free experience for now. We’re all musicians here at TheWaveVR, so it's important to us to find ways of supporting artists and musicians. We’ll be experimenting with different ways of doing this, so we’d love your input!”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We highly encourage feedback from everyone! Whether it's a feature request, bug report, or general comment, we absolutely need the community's involvement in order to build this platform.”

TheWaveVR 0.12.0: Imogen Heap, Various Fixes

For this release, we focused on updating parts of the app in preparation for the launch of our Imogen Heap collaboration tomorrow, August 31st. We’ve got a lot of exciting things planned moving forward!

We hope you’ll join us in-app tomorrow at 7 PM BST and again at 7 PM PT for the premieres of the Imogen Heap show. It’s a stunning, intimate performance of three songs: Let Go, Hide and Seek, and an unreleased Frou Frou track. We can’t wait for you to see it! It is enjoyed best as a community, so hop in starting tomorrow and enjoy. The premieres will be streamed on our Facebook and Twitch channel if you aren’t able to get in a headset. The experience is repeatable like some of our other collaborations, so if you miss tomorrow, no worries!

We did some general bug fixes and improvements (nothing substantial enough to list)!

TheWaveVR 0.11.0, Player Safety Features, GRIMECRAFT VR II

Hello Morning! We've been hard at work developing at TheWaveVR and planning the future of the app. This cycle's release features primarily player safety features, moderation tools, and general maintainance all around.

Something we're excited to announce is the beginning of integrating a 'universal' set of gestures for player safety and social features, based off Rec Room. We've been studying safety features across VR platforms and we openly are huge fans of what Against Gravity has implemented so far. We believe that universalizing these gestures can really improve the VR social ecosystem overall, making it easy to stay safe across the metaverse.

This Thursday, we also have a special performance by GRIMECRAFT!

Changelog:

New Features:

* Blocking! Users can now face their palm towards other users to block them. Design inspired by our friends at Against Gravity's Rec Room
* Support for new Tiltbrush features
* More player safety features
* Joining a friend through the menu places you next to them
* Administrators can send global messages to all users at once
* Rearranged home cave, featuring panels for tutorials, starting parties, and community guidelines
* User Interface polish on the VJ panels
* Staff, Helper, and Verified user nametags are now available
* New community Helpers
* Community Guidelines

Bug Fixes & Improvements:

* Better scene loading
* Users less likely to spawn on top of each other
* Scene changes during a home cave performance are synchronized across all instances of the party
* Reduced cache size (from ~10GB to ~100MB)
* Friending and unfriending cache fixes
* Fixed home cave party timeout issues
* Fixed online friend notification issues
* DJ music playback synchronization is improved
* Improvements to Poly loading
