About This Game

// WORK IN PROGRESS //

Distant Future is a futuristic RPG about growing up in a world obsessed with aspirations. As Nova, a 15-year-old kid from Mars, you'll fight your way through the interplanetary tournament in "Pure": a card-collecting shoot-'em-up where every opponent is designed to feel and act like another real player with their own preferences and reasons to play.

Build your own deck of abilities and discover unexpected synergies, all while Pure gets constantly updated, tweaked and rebalanced by its own in-universe publisher.

Meet characters with all kinds of achivements and deep issues, and make choices that shape both Nova's journey and your own understanding of winning.

Travel across three distinct worlds, each with their own history, culture, and aspirations.

  • Wander the proud autumn-colored cities of terraformed Mars

  • Lose yourself in the vibrant funk and glam of the glittering space-city HUB

  • Struggle to keep pace with the dazzling, ever-changing landscapes and ambitions of Earth

Distant Future is ultimately a story about the aftermath of a choice.

I hope you will find any outcome to your story worth remembering.

A note from the author:

Hello, I'm Cdodge. Ever since 2020, I've wanted to make Distant Future the kind of game I'd instantly buy if I stumbled across it on Steam. Back then I refused to acknowledge just how difficult solo development really was, so progress on the game was at a crawl for years and years. That super sucked. Eventually I realized that if I wanted Distant Future to exist, I had to do things... very differently, to put it lightly. It took a long while, but today I'm much better at recognizing my own limitations, working with others, and actually finishing what I set out to do.

The screenshots on the Steam page above are from earlier developer builds and will be replaced as development moves on. Most illustrations were made by me back then as well. They're there to add a bit of vibe and presentation to the page, and maybe even make it into the game alongside a whole bunch of other big fancy illustrations for emotional moments in the story? Mmm...

Right now our goal is to complete and announce a free demo for Distant Future, which will include the prologue of the story, a bunch of Pure cards to use and mess around with, an open first location on Mars and a temporary playing ground for testing Pure's ever-changing balance.

How soon will this be done? Hard to say, as all of us (4 people) are working without a budget in our free time. Before announcing the demo we will review our options of financing or crowdfunding, if everything goes smoothly, and we'll go from there.

Thank you for reading this WIP note. If Distant Future sounds fun, you could support us by Wishlisting our game! For now we will post any announcements and news in the game's news and updates thingy on the game's Steam Community page

I hope you'll stick around to see this journey through and celebrate the game's debut!

P.S. My old Nova artwork can finally feel brave enough to say

                                      "HI EVERYONE"
