What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Overcommit is a complex, systems-driven card game about surviving the absurdities of corporate software development.

Balancing cards, events, and gameplay systems benefits enormously from real player feedback. Early Access allows the community to help shape the game by influencing balance, suggesting new mechanics, and prioritizing features.

Player feedback will directly impact future content — including new roles, scenarios, cards, and events inspired by real stories from the software industry.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The current plan is 3–6 months, depending on community feedback and how quickly the game systems reach a satisfying level of balance.

Overcommit is built around interacting card systems and emergent gameplay. Early Access will allow the community to help refine mechanics, balance cards, and influence which features and scenarios are prioritized for the full release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of Overcommit is planned to expand and polish the experience in several areas:
- Additional campaigns and storylines exploring different roles and situations within the software industry.
- More cards, events, and gameplay systems expanding the mechanics and strategic possibilities of the game.
- Improved visual and audio assets, including higher-quality graphics, animations, and sound design.
- Gameplay polish and balance, based on feedback gathered during Early Access.
- Performance improvements and optimization, including better asset optimization and overall game stability.

Depending on development progress and community interest, additional platform support (such as a native macOS version) may also be considered.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version already contains the core gameplay systems and a fully playable experience.

Players can start with a tutorial mini-campaign designed to introduce the mechanics, card interactions, and the core gameplay loop of Overcommit. This tutorial acts as a short narrative scenario that showcases the possibilities of the game and teaches the player how the different systems interact.

The main campaign is currently in development and will be expanded during Early Access. New chapters, cards, events, and gameplay situations will be introduced gradually as development progresses.

The core mechanics — including card interactions, task resolution, and the systemic gameplay loop — are already implemented and will continue to be refined and balanced based on player feedback.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The current plan is for the price to remain the same during and after Early Access.

Players who join the game early and actively participate in the community may have opportunities to be recognized in the game’s credits as Supporters ("Founding Employees" section). Community members may also have a chance to inspire or suggest elements such as cards, characters, or small narrative events that could appear in the game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback will play an important role in shaping Overcommit during Early Access.

Players will be able to share feedback, report bugs, and suggest ideas through Discord (the primary community hub) as well as Steam Discussions.

The game also includes an in-game bug reporting feature, and players may optionally opt in to send anonymous bug reports and diagnostic information to help identify and fix issues more quickly.

The community will also have opportunities to influence development through polls and discussions about gameplay balance, new cards, mechanics, and scenarios. Player stories and experiences from the software industry may also inspire future events, characters, and narrative elements in the game.

Active community members may be recognized in the game credits as Founding Employees or Supporters.”

Core Gameplay

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Some visual, audio, and creative assets in Overcommit may be partially created with the assistance of generative AI tools during the development process.

These tools are used to help prototype ideas, generate reference material, or assist in producing certain assets. All generated content is reviewed, edited, and curated by the developer to ensure it fits the game’s artistic style and design.

Generative AI is not used to create gameplay dynamically, and it does not interact with player data.
