Chess Master Quest is an idle progression game built on real chess. Every puzzle you solve, every grandmaster game you study, and every opening you learn is drawn from actual chess theory — not random mechanics with a chess skin.

You start on a park bench. Through thousands of tactical puzzles, time-pressure drills, and deep idle systems, you climb to the World Championship.

Real Chess Content

• 10,000 tactical puzzles across 5 difficulty tiers, sourced from the Lichess database and matched to your Elo rating.

• 1,062 Woodpecker drills — timed pattern recognition training inspired by the Woodpecker Method used by titled players.

• 72 annotated famous games from Morphy to Carlsen, with move-by-move commentary highlighting key strategic and tactical moments.

• 399 classic games in 8 curated packs spanning the Romantic Era to modern brilliance.

• 8 openings with named variations, teaching notes, and interactive drills — learn the Ruy Lopez, Sicilian, Queen's Gambit, and more.

• 16 endgame lessons covering King & Pawn, Rook, Minor Piece, and Queen endgames with interactive drill positions.

Deep Idle Progression

• 8 upgradeable chess stats — Tactics, Calculation, Strategy, Endgames, Openings, Psychology, Stamina, and Consistency — each leveled through training and gameplay.

• 10 upgrades across 5 categories — buy coaching, gear, study tools, tournament prep, and recovery to multiply your growth.

• Research Lab — queue long-duration projects across 6 branches (Automation, Opening Theory, Endgame Tablebase, and more) that generate passive bonuses.

• Synergy system — combining upgrades across categories unlocks powerful cross-domain bonuses like Tactical Coaching, Mental Fortress, and Chess Scholar.

• Offline progress — your research and training continue while you're away.

• Prestige system — reset your Elo at 1200+ to earn Legacy Points and unlock 14 permanent upgrades across 6 categories.

Chess Master Quest was built by a solo developer with the assistance of generative AI tools during development:

• Music: Some but not all background music tracks were created using procedural music generation tools that were themselves created using AI. All tracks were curated and selected by the developer for quality and fit.
• Code: AI coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, Claude) were used to help write and refine game code. All code was reviewed and tested by the developer.
• Text: AI was used to help draft and edit in-game text, including puzzle annotations and educational commentary. All text was reviewed and edited by the developer.

No AI-generated visual art is used in the game. Chess piece graphics are open-source vector assets. Store capsule images were created programmatically using Python/PIL scripts, not generative AI.

The in-game chess opponent uses Stockfish, a traditional chess engine — not generative AI. No content is generated by AI at runtime during gameplay.
