What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“UmbraNet in Early Access represents a playable but incomplete experience. Core gameplay systems and atmosphere are in place, while additional mechanics, story elements, and refinements are planned for future updates.

If you enjoy psychological horror, experimental gameplay, and being involved in the development process, Early Access offers a chance to experience UmbraNet as it evolves. If you prefer a fully polished and complete experience, you may wish to wait until development is further along.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“UmbraNet is planned to remain in Early Access until approximately early 2027. Development will continue throughout this period, with regular updates, feature expansions, and refinements based on player feedback.

The exact duration may change depending on development progress and community input, but the goal is to reach a full 1.0 release when the core experience is complete and polished.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of UmbraNet is planned to expand significantly on the Early Access experience. Version 1.0 will feature a more complete narrative, additional gameplay systems, and expanded environments that deepen the psychological horror and immersion.

The full release is intended to include refined mechanics, improved pacing, enhanced audio and visual presentation, and overall polish based on feedback gathered during Early Access. Performance optimizations, accessibility improvements, and quality-of-life features are also planned.

Early Access focuses on establishing the core systems and atmosphere, while the full version aims to deliver a cohesive, fully realized experience.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version of UmbraNet is currently in an active development state. The core gameplay foundation is in place, including basic interaction systems, environmental mechanics, and the overall psychological horror atmosphere.

Players can experience the central themes, tone, and direction of the game, but content and features are still limited compared to the planned full release. Some systems are incomplete or subject to change, and additional gameplay mechanics, narrative elements, and polish are planned for future updates.

As development continues, the Early Access version may receive frequent adjustments, improvements, and experimental features. Bugs, missing content, and balance changes should be expected as part of the ongoing development process.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“UmbraNet is planned to be offered at a lower price during Early Access. As development progresses and new content, features, and polish are added, the price may increase by the time of the full 1.0 release.

Early Access pricing is intended to reflect the current state of the game and to reward early supporters who choose to participate in the development process.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback plays an important role in the development of UmbraNet. During Early Access, player feedback will be gathered through Steam forums, community discussions, and direct reports from players.

Feedback will be used to help guide improvements to gameplay systems, balance, usability, and overall pacing. Community suggestions may influence future features, quality-of-life improvements, and refinements to existing mechanics.

While not all feedback can be implemented, the development process aims to remain open and responsive, with regular updates and communication to keep players informed about ongoing changes and future plans.”

About This Game

UmbraNet is a psychological horror game where curiosity becomes a threat.

What begins as harmless exploration quickly turns into a fight for control as you descend into a hidden network that was never meant to be accessed. Inspired by hacking culture and deep web aesthetics, UmbraNet blurs the line between player and system.

As you navigate simulated networks, encrypted pages, and hostile entities, the game reacts to your actions. You are watched, manipulated, and slowly trapped, creating constant tension and paranoia.

UmbraNet is a slow-burn horror experience focused on atmosphere and psychological pressure rather than jump scares. Every interaction matters, and every decision carries consequences.

Features

  • Psychological horror inspired by deep web aesthetics

  • Reactive, system-like environments

  • Slow-burn tension and immersive atmosphere

  • Minimal UI for maximum immersion

You were never supposed to find UmbraNet.
Now that you have, it won’t let you leave.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

UmbraNet uses generative artificial intelligence to create some visual content that appears both in-game and on the store page, such as certain images and graphical elements used for atmosphere and presentation.

All AI-generated content is pre-generated and curated by the me (developer) before being included in the game or its marketing materials. No generative AI systems are used during live gameplay, and no player data is collected or processed by AI.

Generative AI is not used for programming, gameplay logic, systems design, or code development. All game mechanics and technical implementation are created manually by the developer.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

UmbraNet contains psychological horror elements that may be disturbing to some players. The game includes themes of paranoia, surveillance, loss of control, and digital manipulation. Players may encounter unsettling imagery, intense audio effects, flashing visuals, and simulated system interference designed to create tension and unease.

The game does not depict sexual acts, sexual violence, or explicit gore. However, it may include references to hacking culture, illegal digital activities, and mild depictions of violence implied through narrative and atmosphere rather than direct action.

UmbraNet is intended for a mature audience due to its psychological intensity, horror themes, and potentially distressing situations.
