About This Game

One evening, a small foal gets separated from the herd and finds itself deep in the forest.

During the day, the woods seem quiet and almost friendly, but when night falls, everything changes: shadows grow longer, sounds become distorted, and the darkness feels as if it’s trying to reach your very heart.

Gameplay Features

  • Atmospheric side-view survival adventure focused on exploration and environmental interaction.

  • Day-based survival loop: explore the environment, find food, avoid hazards, and reach a safe location before nightfall.

  • Night dramatically increases environmental danger, requiring the player to secure shelter before darkness falls.

  • Food system with multiple plant types providing different levels of nutrition; some food sources must be discovered through gameplay.

  • Scent-based mechanic used to identify edible objects, detect nearby threats, and navigate in low visibility without direct UI indicators.

  • No dialogue system: narrative is delivered through animation, sound design, visual effects, and environmental changes.

  • Three life stages with evolving mechanics, difficulty progression, and changes in world behavior.

  • Gradually increasing threats, including predators and more complex survival challenges.

  • Interaction with forest animals that can affect situations, progression, and available paths.

  • Later stages introduce mechanics focused on leading other creatures, territory protection, and stronger influence on the game world.

To survive, the foal must find food, explore the surrounding world, and return to safe places before night comes. Not everything that looks scary is truly dangerous - some things need to be sniffed, observed, and understood.

The journey is divided into three stages of life.

With each new cycle, the hero grows, and the world changes along with them:

  • In childhood, fear hides in the dark.

  • In adolescence, it takes the shape of shadows of wild beasts.

  • In adulthood, the hero no longer runs away, but protects others and leads them forward.

Along the way, the foal will meet strange inhabitants of the forest: a mocking crow, a pushy raccoon, a silent deer, and other creatures. Each encounter can change not only the hero, but the world itself.

In Hoofprints, there are no dialogues or explanations. The story is told through movement, sound, light, and the hoofprints left on the ground - even after the path has already been walked.
