About This Game

What is FewTileEffort? Well, FewTileEffort is a brutal-yet-enjoyable precision platformer. The game's focus is to be as polished and high quality as it can be gameplay-wise. In other words, it's meant to be fun for people who don't mind a little spice and rage once in a while (while having fun, of course), who crave optimization, flow, and games that offer an overall good experience, not just one good mechanic. The game is also very minimalist, but the visuals can still feel atmospheric and pretty.

The controls are incredibly simple, though: Move left and right, jump, dash with W (left and right), and rotate freely on corners, something that's actually pretty unique to FewTileEffort! Free rotation creates a flow state that lets you make jumps that'd seem impossible, scale walls, and perform other fun and crazy tech. The game hinges on teaching you with as few in-your-face tutorials as possible, essentially just tutorializing the things that need buttons to do. The game doesn't treat the player as dumb, but as intellegent and capable of discovery, as it should, which is how the rest of the game's mechanics are learnt.

However, FewTileEffort is unapologetically not for everyone. If you need collectibles, skins, or a story to enjoy a game, then FewTileEffort is almost certainly not for you. However, if you appreciate difficulty, chase optimization and speed, and love flowy, responsive movement, then FTE might just be your match. The game also isn't hard in the "haha gotcha" way, but in the "here's how you can improve" way. Some games can be fair and annoying. FewTileEffort tries to be fair and FUN, while still being actually meaningfully hard. It (probably) won't make you rage quit. Deaths might frustrate you in the moment, but every death teaches you something- whether it be your limits, how to execute a click, or where you could do better next time! All these tools are given to you to prepare you for the big climax of the game: The Tower. I won't spoil the experience, but it's a significant difficulty spike, chaining new mechanics with tight, fast inputs and unusual combos.

The game isn't just limited to that, either. If you expect a nasty postgame... well, FewTileEffort has got your back. Every "mode" has a completionist version- which basically means that you have to do every level in that pack without dying at all. There are also achievements to monitor your progression, a handcrafted 45-track OST to accompany the levels, and a brutally unfair set of endgame challenges that'll push you to your limits, featuring some of the toughest gameplay I could come up with... if you choose to push yourself. If you like designing levels, there's also a fully tutorialized, easy-to-use level editor whether you want to build challenges, endurance tests, or just an idea you found fun! You can even build custom "Mod Packs", which are packs of levels similar to the game's own modes, which you can share with the community, with friends, or just play on your own!
